Mozilla Firefox breaks non-existent world record - nobody cares {Download Squad}

Jul 2nd 2008 10:36PM Ouch! Jebus, Firefox lovers are touchy! Actually, we were kicking around the Firefox press release we were sent on our Download Squad team mailing list and, our general consensus was; Nice try but, is the Guinness book really relevant anymore? Gone are the days of twin fat guys riding tiny motor scooters and that guy with fingernails longer than Howard Hughes.. The Book just doesn't have its former glory anymore.

We're pretty pro Firefox at Download Squad.. in fact, we're pro any browser that makes things better (we've been relatively strong supporters of Opera, too). If this post says anything -- and, it really doesn't -- it's that as much as we love Firefox.. we don't love it for world records and craptastic attempts at marketing stunts, we love it for being a damn good browser.

Remind me not to take ill immediately after a moment of hubiris; at least while you're around. :)

RIAA drops lawsuit against AllofMP3 {Download Squad}

May 27th 2008 11:26PM It's worth pointing out that, although unlikely, that CD store example you cite *could* be charged as "theft by receiving" in most jurisdictions. It's pretty much illegal to do anything if you stare at a law book at just the right angle.

That being said; it's been rare if not unheard of that the RIAA goes after the customers in situations such as this. As long as you don't share the files via P@P apps once you have them -- thus opening yourself up to legal pressure in another, totally different way -- you're probably safe. *Maybe* even safer than downloading from those aforementioned P2P networks.

There's always risk. It's complicated. Just to clear that up.
