Nerd Alert! Geo Metro: the new "it" car? {Autoblog Green}
May 16th 2008 4:52PM I know that the Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift (aka Chevy Sprint/Pontiac Firefly in Canada, probably all rust or crushed due to salt corrosion) might be great in the MPG but I saw one broadsided by a normal sized car. The driver of the Sprint was killed, in a newer car he would have lived, maybe walked away if side airbags were on his car. Then again if you live in a lighter traffic area it might not be a problem. I would hate to see Metro vs. SUV.
Oh no!, Bob's not going to like this! NHTSA to propose 36mpg by 2015! {Autoblog Green}
Apr 22nd 2008 12:38PM WTF does NTHSA have to do with MPG? They're suposed to be handling the safety end of things. I'd bet all the automakers would fight this tooth and nail because that gives them about 6 years to meet the new reg and that's not enough time since the design cycle is usually 3-4 years.
Beijing '08 Preview: Chery to unveil new small car that's neither a copy or ugly {Autoblog Green}
Apr 9th 2008 11:30AM Nope, it's ugly. Mini and the Fit show that cars can be small and still look good. Why does everything else end up looking bug-eyed.
GM's Chevy Volt update: All systems go, Malibu-based li-ion mules coming soon {Autoblog Green}
Apr 7th 2008 10:40AM Chris M did I not say that they needed to redesign the drivetrain to go higher speeds. Plus the all electric range is 7 miles so it really doesn't have a usable all electric range. Please review the often posted most trips are within x miles and you'll find x > 7. I remember the 40 mile all electric range was chosen as the target for the Volt because most peoples commute was less.
Few days late but I hope you read this.
GM's Chevy Volt update: All systems go, Malibu-based li-ion mules coming soon {Autoblog Green}
Apr 4th 2008 5:00PM 2Snowboard I'm right there with you, Rar and Jilted on the bashing of American automakers I believe GM will get the Volt to market and it will be a good product. They have done half baked in the past Caddy 4-6-8, Olds Diesel etc. and that hurt them big time. Everything they do now must be done carefully.
I can tell you why Toyota can't beat GM to the punch. They got all their hybrid eggs in their Synergy drive. It was designed to be all electric at low to moderate speeds for short periods. Higher speeds require the gas engine to run. (A site that sells plug in kits said you can be all electric up to 34 MPH) It's not as simple as adding more batteries to a Prius and bingo ya beat the Volt. To do the same kind of thing will require a major redesign of the drivetrain or the move to a series hybrid.

The Gray Eagles create a turbo diesel Harley V-Twin conversion {Autoblog Green}
Mar 3rd 2008 5:16PM Ever see a pic of a British 3 wheeled roadster reverse trike with a V-twin engine where the grill should be. The name escapes me but you could probably get over 100mpg on diesel.
