Proposed CAFE rules hurt Porsche, small powerful vehicles {Autoblog}

Apr 29th 2008 4:16AM Ferraris, Lambos and Porsches are driven little compared to Priuses. You can compare similar year Lambo and Prius mileages on EBay. It's quite likely that a Prius bought this year will consume more gasoline during its lifetime than a Lambo bought this year.

As environment doesn't care what source the CO2 comes from, why should the Lambo be pay more in for pollution than the Prius, since the Prius will likely pollute as much?

CO2/km is something; but any fines should be based on actual CO2 emissions, which is a function of kilometers driven and CO2/km.

First Drive: 2009 Infiniti FX {Autoblog}

Apr 23rd 2008 7:08AM "No apologies here...I absolutely love it! To me it's very sleek, aggressive, and sexy. I appreciate the fact they took some chances. Well done Infiniti!"

Amen, that's one sleek SUV. ...but

"In all seriousness, angry eyes are overdone."

there's an inkling of truth there too.

Apr 21st 2008 8:40PM "What about high mileage diesel cars? Where’s GM?"

In Europe. Opel (that's the Saturn looking brand) Corsa 1,3 EcoFlex diesel is 119 g/km on the emissions. Even Saab models aren't that bad for medium cars: 9-3 1,9 TDi gets 147 g / km.

VIDEO: Al Gore gives a new slide show. Now with increased optimism! {Autoblog Green}

Apr 18th 2008 8:04AM "If man is solely responsible for the increased levels of CO2, then how do you explain the Ordovician Period, 440 million years ago, when the CO2 level was 16 times higher than today?"

I cringed when Gore pulled out venus in his presentation, somehow insinuating (not saying) that those 400 degree temperatures on another planet would befall earth if something isn't done.

Apr 17th 2008 3:56AM He seems more like the South Park "Man-pig-bear"-Al Gore than the more professional and interesring Al Gore of Inconvenient Truth. The man is panting throughout the new slideshow, he sounds desperate and pathetic at the same time .. I felt sorry for the dude who yelled "Run for president!" to him.

I also kept hearing Stans voice saying "He's Al Gore, he doesn't have any friends".

Talk about overstaying your welcome.

Video: Could a Kia save your life? {Autoblog Green}

Apr 11th 2008 4:20PM Above text fails to mention one bit about the rear crash test (this from IIHS web site):

"To evaluate seat/head restraints, vehicle seats and their attached restraints are fixed to the sled, which is accelerated to simulate a stationary vehicle that's rear-ended by another vehicle _of the same weight_ going 20 mph."

Notice: vehicle of the same mass. that was omitted from original article.

You don't need to to be Einstein to figure that being rearended in a Kia by a Hummer is going to be more harmful than being rearended in a Hummer by a Kia, even though Kia got better points. A 3,5 ton Hummer isn't just going to move much when hit by a 1,5 ton car.

Corvette ZR-1 'Ring times in low 7:40s, GT-R V-Spec amused {Autoblog}

Apr 11th 2008 4:14AM "I'm so sick and tired of hearing Euro-idiots coming on here saying how bad American cars are. Are you kidding me? I lived for 1 yr in Germany and believe me, normal Europeans drive the most under-powered POS I've ever seen."

I'm from Finland, and I agree with you. We are so taxed up the ass on cars that the average (yes, average) age of cars is over 10 years. Performance would be so much more affordable in america, I'm really jealous that you can buy a 300 hp Mustang for what a 1,6L Nissan costs here.

Strange thing though; I live in Norway now, and I see a lot of big-ass american SUVs (Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Hummer + pickups) even though gasoline costs like 10 bucks a gallon (okay, 8-9 $ / gallon).

So europeans might deride american cars but most cant afford the really nice european cars. Most of us drive POS european cars, would kill for an opportunity to buy american-priced performance (american, european, japanese at american prices), but we can't. So the thing left for us to do is to go on the internet and claim our imaginary european cars are better than yours.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police urges elderly drivers to give up their licenses {Autoblog}

Apr 3rd 2008 3:43AM Driving is not a right, it's a privilege. There's already a relationship between physical ability getting your license. For example, very young persons are not given licenses, nor are those with some physical disabilities, like blindness.

If a physical disability can result in you losing your license (nobody would argue, for example, giving blind people licenses), why not oldness? Because it will severely limit one's capabilities. There's a reason why most people are expected to retire in their mid-60s at the latest.

Oil execs march up to Capitol Hill today - watch the hearing live {Autoblog Green}

Apr 2nd 2008 2:34AM I'd say the tax breaks are difficult to justify. Norway has put tax percentage as 70+ (yes, the government takes over 2/3s of profits) of the profits any oil company here makes, and there hasn't been a lack of takers. And that isn't even the reason for expensive gasoline; that's due to high gasoline tax and high prices all around.

But in america they need tax breaks?
