Will your green car give you cancer? {Autoblog Green}
Apr 29th 2008 12:42PM None of these hybrids use a massive AC motor like those that will be in all-electric vehicles (and the Volt).
I would not be so quick to assume no harmful effects from basically taking a long, daily commuter EMF "bath" or even longer "soaks" during vacation trips.
I'm not saying there is convincing research showing harmful effects from ambient EMF, but this (EVs) won't be like having power lines outside your house. Your own body be straddling the field.
In America we implement technologies first and ask questions later. We like to make the whole population the guinea pigs for: genetically altered food, above ground atomic tests, unsafe-at-any-speed automobiles for the first 60 years, Billion-to-one odds totally safe nuclear plants....
e-max 110s: Inexpensive EV scooter for Europeans {Autoblog Green}
Apr 25th 2008 12:01PM Please, you must be kidding. E-Max already ripped off, went bankrupt...and now it's reborn to rip off again?
Will the green car revolution bring about the end of local mechanics and garages? {Autoblog Green}
Mar 11th 2008 9:23AM Good comment, Whopper. That's been my experience. I've rarely come away from a dealer repair to find that what was wrong wasn't what got fixed.
I think the need for mechanics for EVs will be about the same as for gasoline powered vehicles for everything except the art of engine repair, which will disappear - electric motors are an order or two simpler than ICEs - and working with batteries/controllers, which will introduce another system to be diagnosed and repaired. And battery systems won't seem like some incredibly complex and new technological principle. It's still fundamentally stuff we learned in shop class, isn't it?
Is corn tricking us into making ethanol? {Autoblog Green}
Feb 18th 2008 11:18AM Kamyar Enshayan (University of Northern Iowa) made some similar points about ethanol at the Ohio organic growers conference yesterday, and also recommended we try to work within our solar budget, concentrating more on changing the paradigm of consumption and less on substitutionary technology.
Ethanol-powered gas turbines to generate electricity {Autoblog Green}
Feb 18th 2008 9:26AM In Iowa they need to build 3 new coal-fired plants to provide the electricity needed to produce ethanol from corn. So now, here's a way to turn that ethanol back into electricity!

GoingGreen has a post-Xmas sale on the G-Wiz {Autoblog Green}
Jan 8th 2008 9:37AM AJ speaks my mind. The table won, on national TV, no less. Which is why, of course, they can't sell these appalling pieces of crap.
Soon, smoking in cars with children will be illegal in California {Autoblog Green}
Dec 26th 2007 3:12PM Yeah, "into the houses"! Social workers could do full work ups (hmmmm...environment not gay-friendly enough, lots of trans-fat food, OK load the kids into the bus...)
What am I saying -- "could"? It's "WILL," after universal pre-K Hillary wins.
"Teach your kids about Hillary, before it's '08!"

Phoenix Motorcars cancels UQM Technologies motor order! {Autoblog Green}
Nov 1st 2007 2:03PM Under Part I, ITEM 5. OTHER INFORMATION:
We received a purchase order dated January 8, 2007 from Phoenix Motorcars, Inc. in the amount of $9.25 million for the purchase of 500 propulsion systems and DC-to-DC converters. On January 12, 2007 we completed a Purchase and Supply Agreement with Phoenix Motorcars, Inc. that specifies the terms and conditions of our supply relationship with Phoenix. On October 30, 2007 we were notified by Phoenix Motorcars, Inc. of their intention to cancel the Purchase and Supply Agreement with us and an associated purchase order to buy $9.25 million of our products, due to significant issues at Phoenix Motorcars, Inc. unrelated to our performance. We believe that a substantial portion of the purchase order is not subject to cancellation. Accordingly, we expect to hold discussions with Phoenix to obtain additional information regarding their position and pursue a satisfactory resolution.
Here's the SEC filing.
