Germany to launch a 310 mile-per-hour maglev train {Autoblog Green}
Sep 28th 2007 9:40PM As a German my impression is that it's more some kind of prestige project.
It is "German" technology so we really need to promote it to sell it to other countries. Maybe even because they fear that the Chinese will steal the technology from their Shanghai line and make loads of money with it. *rollseyes*
I really don't see the benefit compared to more standard means of public transportation at the current technology level.
AlgaeLink introduces 2nd generation algae bioreactors {Autoblog Green}
Sep 23rd 2007 7:34PM I have a feeling that this just might be a way of actually producing "green" biofuel. Other approaches so far really have been rather disappointing so far.
Co-op America says "Plug-in Hybrids 'Yes,' Ethanol 'No'" to Ford, GM {Autoblog Green}
Sep 14th 2007 8:31PM In my opinion the primary type of fuel used for cars must be electricity generated through renewable sources or even hydrogen generated with electricity from such sources. Even now it is more environmentally friendly then other available fuels . I see biofuels only as a reserve for longer distances in PHEVs, till the time fuel cells are really feasible or battery technology has improved sufficiently. In this way current sources of domestically generated biofuel would be sufficient to be a part of the answer instead of great marketing material for the green image.
Why corn ethanol is especially bad for California {Autoblog Green}
Sep 14th 2007 7:58PM This is just another hint at how bad for climate and other things most forms of biofuel actually are. Their production takes away food sources, promotes monocultures which leads to soil degradation and in some countries (i.e. Indonesia) rain forests are being burned down to make room for palm plantations for the production of palmoil for use as fuel. The CO2 reduction of the oil use as fuel can never hope to offset the amount that was released into the atmosphere through the burning not mentioning the remaining positive effects rain forests have on the environment.
