Jun 8th 2008 11:51AM I think you'll find that it is correct that electric cars reduce overall pollution even if powered from coal.
I suggest you read the following which goes into this in detail:http://www.sherryboschert.com/Downloads/Emissions.pdf

May 28th 2008 2:03AM What about those that live next to busy main roads or motorways? What about about all the noise of traffic in big cities? Would it be nice to get rid of all the noise pollution.
London's Congestion Charge will increase CO2 emissions? {Autoblog Green}
Apr 13th 2008 4:19AM The other problem with the new proposals is it wipes out an incentive for electric cars. Under the new plans the lowest emission cars also become exempt as well. Why would people bother going with an electric car?
Under the existing plans you have seen quite a number of sales of the Reva electric car in London due to its congestion charge exempt status. Although I hate that little car there are more choices for an electric car on the way such as the Think City.

Apr 7th 2008 4:37PM 5-8 years?? We've been told for ages its just a few years out. I don't see the point. By this point Renault and Project Better Place will have rolled out electric cars and the supporting infrastructure on a mass scale.

Jan 21st 2008 2:11PM The whole point of the battery exchange station is to enable long distance driving beyond the range of the car.
I have seen many people mention that you can get new batteries that will charge up in just ten minutes. This sounds great but I question how it would scale up. If for example everyone came home after work and plugged in would the power utility company actually be able to cope with such a peak load. Far better to slowly recharge a battery when its sat in a parked car or an exchange station.
I guess we will have both solutions from different companies so it will be interesting to see how either compares in practice.

Jan 21st 2008 11:51AM I would imagine charging points would work with other electric cars. I'm assuming that they agree on some sort of common standard.
@dave: Project Better Place are planning to install 500,000 charging points across Israel. The focus isn't just on battery exchange stations.

Jan 11th 2008 9:51AM That must be a mistake. The whole business model that Project Better Place relies on cheap electricity. My understanding as Shai explained it was that monthly costs would be around the same as you pay now for a car. In this case it would include the cost of the electricity, leasing of the battery, upkeep of the recharge grid, plus paying off any subsidy that went towards the car.
