Sensible AAA recomments not trying "dangerous fuel-saving techniques" {Autoblog Green}
Jul 3rd 2008 1:36PM There's nothing wrong with coasting if you are strong enough to steer a power steering car without the engine assisting. If I see my next light turn red 1/4 - 1/2 a mile away I'll turn the engine off and coast to the light. I've also started turning off the engine when I know the light will take 45 sec. to a min or more to cycle back to green.
My only concern is the savings will go out the window if my starter goes out much sooner than typical.
I have not noticed a sizable increase in mpg, but it does make me feel better.
The best savings I have is the fact I ride my bike to work 3-4 days a week. It saves me approximately a gallon of gas a day.
Living in suburbia now even worse {Autoblog Green}
Jun 30th 2008 8:24AM I'm living proof that the city isn't the city of the universe. I live and work in the burbs. I live just out side of the city and work 9 miles further away. It's actually quite nice. And if it were up to me I'd live and work another 2 hrs away from the city.
While a big city is good for a lot of people, I'm just to country. I can't stand city life, to me city life is a sad existence. Going months if not years without being able to see the stars, breathe fresh air, and listen to the quite nights of the world. one word sums up all citys. pollution. everything from trash to noise to heat to CO2. While it may be more efficient than living in the burbs and commuting in to the city. It is still a sad existence, at least it is in my eyes.

The $4/gallon noose tightens: credit cards not welcome at some gas stations {Autoblog Green}
Jun 19th 2008 8:55AM "11 - 12 cents a gallon markup"
Where the hell is that at? wow how things have changed. When my dad was in the business about 10-15 yrs ago. The mark-up was 1-4 cents a gallon in south Texas. At 11-12 cents a gallon he might have stayed in the business, instead he closed the pumps and stuck with auto repair. your right the guys at the sales point don't make much. Also brn is right it depends on your deal with the clearinghouse. but the smaller you are the more screwed you are, because they only give the big discounts to big volume.
OK, now what: thieves make off with 4,000 gallons of diesel from LA-area station {Autoblog Green}
Jun 18th 2008 8:14AM As some one who grew up with my dad owning a gas station and a grandfather a distributor. the "special device" is bogus. they are just saying that to make others think it's hard to steel. all you need is a storage tank on a trailer, a pump, a screwdriver and a hose.
There were a rash of thefts around Austin last year when prices first started going up. Some guy would pull up and power wash a closed gas stations drive to make it look like he belonged, and at the same time stole gas and placed it in a 100-200 gal storage tank on a trailer he was pulling. you've got to give the thief credit, it was simple and effective. I think he stopped once he hit a gas station that had video on the tanks and he almost got busted. So if you own a gas station, I'd say get some insurance and place at least one surveillance camera on your fill port to your underground tanks.
oh and fyi for those that don't know much about the business: Most mom and pop shops don't own the gas in their tanks, it is still owned by the distributor or the brand refiner such as Exxon until it is sold to the consumer, thats how they are able to adjust prices so fast without losing their shirts.

Jun 16th 2008 5:28PM This is the one thing I've always admired about the Japanese's compinies, they typically think long term strategy.
on the other hand corporate America is only interested in short and some times mid term profits, very rarely does corporate America concern its self whit long term success and goals.
BREAKING: HUMMER may die, 4 GM plants to close, Volt approved for production {Autoblog Green}
Jun 4th 2008 2:00PM If I had the funds to be a collector. I'd buy a H2, But would prefer a H1 as a collector car. But I agree Hummer closing should have happened years ago.
AVFI 2008: T. Boone Pickens lays the future of oil and alternatives on the line {Autoblog Green}
May 22nd 2008 9:41AM I don't know about y'all but he mentioned something I've been suspecting for the past year that really scares me for the near tearm issues. Boone said, "I promise you it's going to happen pretty quick, too - we'll be reduced to something less than the superpower that we are."
And hes in the circles to know something like this. Finally someone is speaking openly about the elephant in the room. Nothing like an top tier Oil tycoon going eco with solar etc. and telling us how bad it is to import oil and export billions of dollars. I think this is an oh S#$% moment.
scary stuff.
Craigslist Find of the Day: '67 Mercury Cougar with Mercedes diesel engine {Autoblog Green}
May 20th 2008 5:40PM Thats just sad :( Almost as sad as a beauty like that getting crushed. I just don't understand why someone would want to drop a stinkin' rattle trap in to that beauty. There should be a law against that type of shade tree hackery. I can almost understand a electric conversion but a stinkn' smoky rattle trap?
Sad just sad.
