Friday warning on the dangers of diesel {Autoblog Green}
Jun 6th 2008 1:31PM That was always my favorite class of tractor to watch at the pulls. They call it super stock (or at least they did 20 years ago) and one of the rules is that the tractor must use the same engine block it came with. So to get the power, they used all sorts of unholy levels of boost. Highly entertaining, and often spectacular failures.

Apr 28th 2008 5:35PM Continuous power output is what the motor and the motor controller can handle on a continuous basis without overheating. Maximum power is what it will do in short bursts.
Incorrect tire pressure responsible for 18.4 metric ton of extra CO2 emissions {Autoblog Green}
Apr 27th 2008 11:24AM Yeah, give it to us in units we can understand! How many Libraries of Congress are in 1 bar? Also, what's 8 billion liters in Empire State Buildings?
It's Friday: Dean Kamen unveils dung-powered water and electricity generator {Autoblog Green}
Apr 25th 2008 11:52AM I wouldn't say that this thing purifies the waste. It produces purified water from waste or undrinkable water, but the output is just the same stuff with less water in it. The actual waste still has to be dealt with.
Chevrolet adds a 4 cylinder-6 speed combo to Malibu lineup {Autoblog Green}
Apr 24th 2008 12:47PM I have a '99 Park Avenue, and on a long trip it can just touch 30mpg if you don't speed. My dad has similar results with his LeSabre (same engine). Anywhere in-town results in low-20 mpg figures though. My mpg readings are gps-verified miles per gas-pump gallon. The car's odo reads about 1% high, and the dash-indicated mpg figure is anywhere from 3-6 mpg high.
So since we can squeeze almost 5 mpg above the EPA rating on the ParkAve, you might be able to wring 37 mpg out of the new Bu. That wouldn't be bad at all...

Apr 23rd 2008 9:19AM If the roads in Michigan keep getting worse, you might wish for some 15" wheels and taller rubber. What good is 18" style when you're running around on a donut spare with yet another bent alloy wheel in the trunk?
Buick Lucerne Super finally arrives, brings CXL Special Edition with it {Autoblog}
Apr 8th 2008 3:39PM Who needs 292HP in a car built for octengenarians? That neglected old 3800 series engine works just fine, runs forever, and gets great MPG for its size. 29mpg cross country in our Park Avenue!
Dingell might get the final say on state-based fuel economy laws {Autoblog Green}
Apr 7th 2008 8:51PM I'm all for responsible environmentalism and all that jazz, but I agree with Cervus - having a bunch of different state regulations would drive automakers bonko. Though we could all have a good laugh when some state legislated a particularly strict CO2 limit, and the automakers responded with, "OK, just wait about 3 years for the new cars that can meet your standard."
Dealership employee totals 2008 Dodge Viper {Autoblog}
Apr 1st 2008 9:53AM I spun a viper the first time I drove one too. Fortunately for me it was at an autocross, we hit nothing, and the owner didn't kill me. Yeah, 1st gear is pretty unmanageable in that car. :)
Toyota: there is "no way" we can sell more Priuses than last year {Autoblog Green}
Feb 18th 2008 9:58PM Or maybe Toyota just isn't willing to expand their current production facility to produce more Priora while they work on the next gen version?
