Wagoner: GM didn't build hybrids because nobody wanted them {Autoblog Green}

Jul 12th 2008 1:21AM BR: Honda's made three hybrids: the Insight, Accord and Civic. They have two new ones coming out in the future. They couldn't sell the Accord hybrid 'cause it had more horsepower than the regular Accord, only came in 4 doors, and only came with leather and an auto tranny. Environmentalists don't want leather and more horsepower. They want to save gas. The majority of people buying hybrids back when they were selling the Accord hybrid were not looking to save money on fuel, but were early adopters.

The Insight was just too small and ugly.

Corvette owner orders electric Yaris from Hybrid Technologies {Autoblog Green}

Jul 6th 2008 4:48AM guy would be better off buying this thing:

and ditching the vette. While not as fast as the vette, it would appear to accomplish basically the same end, really, in end.

John McCain doesn't know how much gas costs {Autoblog Green}

Jun 30th 2008 4:01PM I don't like McCain much, but I agree with JPM and the calls for a retraction, correction or clarification of this blog posting. I'd actually clicked on this to say I just heard John McCain mention that gas prices were over $5.00 a gallon in Santa Barbara only a few days ago. So it's not that he doesn't know there's a problem. He wants a federal tax holiday, after all, which is one of the most colossally ignorant things I've ever heard of.

The $4/gallon noose tightens: credit cards not welcome at some gas stations {Autoblog Green}

Jun 19th 2008 1:27PM @Steve: You said, "SUVs aren't the root cause of our excessive consumption habits; cheap fuel and easy credit are." You are definitely right in the sense that were it not for cheap fuel and easy credit, most people wouldn't be driving their SUVs because many wouldn't have been able to purchase them, and if we had prices like Europe for the last 10 years most people wouldn't have wanted to purchase them even if they could afford them in the first place.

So, where is Martin Eberhard's Tesla Roadster anyway? Here's the story so far {Autoblog Green}

Jun 18th 2008 10:24PM I never went through a divorce as a kid. In fact, my parents are still married. But... I can't help but follow this business with Tesla, and the dispute between Tesla and Fisker and wonder... is this how kids feel when their parents start fighting?

Mitsubishi launches new tag-line: "Drive@Earth" {Autoblog Green}

Jun 18th 2008 7:36PM They could change it to fly@pearlharbor, in honor of the Mitsubishi Zero airplanes that were used to bomb Pearl Harbor. I was thinking about dropping this bit of knowledge in the last post about their imiEV, but that diamond logo is like the propellers on the front of their aircraft.

Honda to revive the Insight name for new hybrid? {Autoblog Green}

Jun 17th 2008 11:49PM @ Snowdog:

The first generation Civic and the Insight were both available with MTs. They got rid of the manual transmission with the second generation Civic. The Accord hybrid was never available with a MT. According to Greenhybrid.com, the MT Civic and Prius get the same mileage in real world driving.

I pay for the electricity to the garage, and my place is 2.1 miles from my office, so I ride my bicycle to work. Because I also walk to Whole Foods and most restaurants I frequent and have a motorcycle, sometimes I wonder why I have a car at all.

Ford SUV assembly plant workers get 9-week unplanned vacation {Autoblog Green}

Jun 17th 2008 10:23PM Too bad they won't shift those factories to making the Reflex concept (Refl3x? R3fl3x?). It'd be great if they actually made that car. I was as excited about it as people are about the Volt... but... nothing.

Chrysler prices new Aspen/Durango two-mode hybrids, starting at $45,340 {Autoblog Green}

Jun 17th 2008 7:38PM @Chris: good call on the comparison. But how about also including the MSRP on the Lexus 400h? ($41,580 and 27mpg/24mpg).

I LOL so much at Chrysler and GM. I thank them for the ab workout. Maybe I can skip the gym tonight.

Honda to revive the Insight name for new hybrid? {Autoblog Green}

Jun 17th 2008 5:42PM Back to the point of the thread... about reviving the Insight name. I don't think the name had anything to do with the lackluster sales. I think the Prius simply appealed to more people.

The problem I always had with the Insight was that as a motorcycle rider, it didn't offer enough of a difference between riding and driving that I felt like I could buy it. I have a Civic Hybrid, 4 doors, 5 passengers. I'd be better off in L.A. with Synergy Drive, but IMA works really well in the 'burbs. I like that I have a manual transmission. But will I buy another Honda hybrid? Probably not. Do I regret the one I have? Nope.
