May 15th 2008 11:55AM @4: Good luck with that. But the fact is if one is provided a technology that uses LESS fuel, it IS progress. Because even of all of the hundreds of millions of vehicles on the roads were magically converted to EVs tomorrow by Tinker Bell, we'd still be using fossil fuels for a ton of other things. Ahh including in the making electricity.

May 14th 2008 1:28PM A 42-gallon barrel of crude oil makes about 19½ gallons of gasoline, 9 gallons of fuel oil, 4 gallons of jet fuel, and 11 gallons of other products, including lubricants, kerosene, asphalt, and petrochemical feedstocks to make plastics. That adds up to more than 42 gallons because of something called "refinery gain" - the processing and chemical changes decrease the density and hence increase the volume of the refined components.

May 13th 2008 11:32AM @1: Which means what? That their stock dropped 6% last week and it was down under $100/share or that is it has dropped 30% in the last 10 months? According to my ticker, Friday's close was 101.31 and Monday's close was 101.54 Not sure you can pin too much on a 23 cent jump.
