Sep 26th 2007 8:18AM the best thing that could happen is for healthcare to be taken off the backs of employers and to be done at the federal level. The countries that are kicking Detroits ass in the marketplace have much less expensive and at the same time more effective health care systems. Universal health care will come at the behest of the corporations that run America.
GM parts facility adds 1.3M kWh solar array {Autoblog Green}
Sep 14th 2007 8:56AM Also noteworthy here is that Unisolar is a division of Energy Conversion Devices. A sister division is Cobaysys which is supplying the Nimh battery sets for GMs two mode hybrids this fall as well as for the Chevy and Saturn mild hybrids.

GM: battery rental payments weekly, might cost the same as gas {Autoblog Green}
Sep 6th 2007 1:04PM Some of you dont seem to realize the cost of the batteries. The upfront price has to be somewhat in line with median new car pricing if they are to sell a profitable volume. Life Cycle costs are less important to the typical buyer than the price they've got to pay. Nimh is cheaper than Lead Acid right now on a life cycle basis. You dont see a switch from LA to Nimh. Look up some info about lithium while you're at it. Its not that plentiful, there isnt near enough of it to equip millions of cars with lithium battery power. GM has no money to lose. They've go to bring this off and make some money doing it. Just my two cents.
Can GM really make 60,000 Volts in its first year? {Autoblog Green}
Aug 23rd 2007 11:25AM from my research on nimh: the latest version, not yet used commercially, approaches A123 Lithium battery in storage capacity, but does not have enough deep discharge cycle capacity for a plug in hybrid. You can bet they're working on it furiously though.
Can GM really make 60,000 Volts in its first year? {Autoblog Green}
Aug 23rd 2007 11:09AM Just speculating here, but A123 and Cobasys are working jointly for GM on these lithium batteries. While the chemistry is A123, Cobasys has a state of the art mfg plant and is already certified as a tier 1 supplier and integrator of battery systems. which takes in the elctronics and software to monitor and control the batteries operation. Its possible they might be involved in the mfg, though they're already committed to supplying Nimh systems for GM's two mode and mild hybrid modeels coming out this fall.

Alan Mullaly favors a gas tax over new fuel economy regulations {Autoblog Green}
Aug 10th 2007 8:48AM Given that people are buying more gas at three dollars than they were at two dollars, we're going to pay more for gas. The only question is what happens to the money. Should it go to Bush's friends or should it go to addressing some of the long list of problems we face? One of which is developing alternatives to petroleum which will stop exporting our wealth to our enemies.
