A McCain presidency would mean electric cars powered by nuclear plants, clean coal {Autoblog Green}
Jun 19th 2008 1:46PM If you don't like coal, you are limited, currently, to nuclear as a replacement for coal (or natural gas. or oil.) Mike is right about this -- it may not fit your plan, but it is a correct statement. Don't think for a minute that I don't wish that we could convert all of our coal power to solar or wind, but it's not feasible at this time. Don't think for a minute that I don't wish that Mike was wrong, but unfortunately, he's not wrong.
There are certainly growing applications for solar and wind, but churning out a trillion watts in the middle of the night on a 90 degree windless summer night to run 10 million air-conditioners just is not one of those applications. Nuclear will get that job done for us and do it more cleanly than coal, oil or gas.
I use Nuclear power at my home and I pay $0.10 per kilowatt. I don't find that to be expensive. Converting my home to solar would cost, presently, $60,000. The interest on that amount would pay my electric bill as well as the neighbors on either side of my house. Sorry guys -- Solar is just not cheap and sadly, it's just not affordable. It is good for brewing up hot water though, and that's conservation, and I'll use it for that application.
Chevy or Opel? What to do with Volt outside North America {Autoblog Green}
Jun 10th 2008 2:10PM Neither Chevy or Opel, rather, it should be badged as a Cadillac. It's a booming brand in Europe and the US. The initial price will be Cadillacish as well, so why not give people the ego boost of the brand.
Thousands take part in world-wide nude bicycle ride {Autoblog Green}

Students want your help to find out where demand for EVs is coming from {Autoblog Green}
May 29th 2008 7:07PM Self selecting means that you have a goal for the results of the survey. You stated in your mission that you goal was to prove demand for EV's. That's a surveying no-no.
Blind advocacy group gets a theme song for louder hybrids/EVs {Autoblog Green}
May 28th 2008 1:19PM Okay -- the song did make me think about the problem.
I've thought about it and thought about it and I've decided blind people should stay off of the roads. Incidently -- I wish they would stop making so much noise over the lack of noise. My hybrid is just as load in motion as a normal car.
And while we're at it, what about the deaf? Should we install flashing strobes?

An SUV tank worth of ethanol uses enough corn to feed a human being for a year. That's nothing to be thankful for.
Posted at 3:54PM on May 7th 2008 by Peter Wang"
So wrong in so many ways...
1) Ethanol is made from field corn, not human food.
2) Farm Production of field corn has increased each year by an amount that is larger than the consumption of the ethanol industry. In other words, more corn is wasted today – than 10 years ago. World starvation has nothing to do with biofuel. It has everything to do with money and politics (not ours – theirs.)
3) 2.7 gallons of ethanol from 1 bushel of corn. SUV tank = 17 gallons, = 6.29 bushels of corn, which would not feed a human for even a month (I just thought I would throw that in for chuckles.)
4) Seriously, you people need to gain a real education on biofuel and stop listening to the oil industry funded mis-information that seems to be popular everywhere, including here.
20,000 people express email interest in buying a Chevy Volt {Autoblog Green}
May 8th 2008 12:02PM I'm number 6000 something on the list. And I think about the car at least once each day. I'm expecting it to cost between 30-40k -- doesn't matter, I'll buy two if they have them.

May 8th 2008 11:58AM "2. When is cheap cellulosic ethanol set to hit the commodities market? I would expect to see the price of E85 drop at that point and be more price-competitive with gasoline."
Maybe ten years...maybe 20...maybe never if we keep fighting traditional ethanol.
Minnesota boy rides bike into Prius he didn't hear {Autoblog Green}
May 8th 2008 11:45AM "OTOH, this is a serious matter for those who needs to depend on their hearing to get around."
No, it isn't. It's not a serious matter at all. It is entirely up to those people to figure out a way to stay out of traffic -- same as it is with retarded people, and for that matter, dogs and cats.
Get real -- this is nuttiness.

May 8th 2008 11:40AM MarkR -- Ford is rated as the highest quality car. It's better than Toyota. The issues at Ford have to do with product apeal, not quality.
