Let the leakage begin: Ford Focus RS concept {Autoblog}
Jul 3rd 2008 4:53PM There is a column in this weeks Autocar in the U.K.
quote "on board what is without question the lairiest, most mental, and certainly the fastest hot hatch there has ever been"
fastest time around the Nurburgring 8 min 17 sec or Porsche 911 quick as the article points out.....
They were not allowed to say what the car was but I think we can safely say it was very very Green in colour but not so green otherwise !!!

Jul 3rd 2008 4:48PM In this weeks Autocar they have an article about testing an unnamed car at the 'Ring in Germany that was lapping in 8 min 17 sec or about the same as a 911.
quote "without question the lariest most mental and fastest hot hatch there has ever been"
There is an embargo on releasing the name but they let slip that is was a fwd hatchback.
I wonder what car they were referring too.....

Jul 3rd 2008 4:20PM time to be really radical
what about a 3.0 turbo 6 with 280 bhp and 420 ibs ft that can do well over 30 mpg ! not far off the future cafe standards which the manufacturer says it cant meet
hint its already made a germany and the only drawback is the unfortunate increase in the cost of the fuel it uses.
hint - tons of torque and revs to 5000 rpm
Volkswagen matches 1.4 TFSI engine to DSG for the Passat for 37mpg {Autoblog Green}
Jun 9th 2008 2:58PM oh and any price comparisons are meaningless as cars in europe have higher taxes and those taxes are included in the price quoted. margins in the us are much lower althought the volume is higher but the eec market is quite large now too.
so our own makers chrage us more and everyone else falls in line. competition anyone ??
Volkswagen matches 1.4 TFSI engine to DSG for the Passat for 37mpg {Autoblog Green}
Jun 9th 2008 2:55PM The cost of conversion to us standards would not be much as the engine is a petrol as pointed out above. i imagine it would meet us mpg and emision standards. and as far as safety is concerned as the passat is sold in the us the cost would not be much although it would still have to be tested.
tfsi refers to all turbo vw and audi now think the supercharger has gone. is available up to 170 bhp although mpg is lower.
only problem i can see is that it is hardly more economical than say the new 2.0 petrol non turbo accord/tsx and probably costs more to build. and it is not as economical as diesels but on the other hand the higher costs of diesel might change this.
Mazda2 three-door and diesel now waiting for European buyers {Autoblog Green}
Jun 3rd 2008 6:55PM In answer to the clean diesel question it depemds what technology mazda had fitted. upcoming euro regulations (which the new Honda dtec already meets) will cut nox emissions greatly in addition to the lower co2 emissions but there can be a tradeoff in that lower nox can mean slighly higher co2 ! the accord/tsx diesel has 10 bhp more than before in a slightly heavier car. nox is down substantially but co2 is up slightly
