Next-gen Prius to get solar panel to drive accessories {Autoblog Green}
Jul 7th 2008 10:20AM What's wrong with panels running the cabin fan on hot days? Why is that green washing? It's just common sense, heck, it should be standard on all cars.

May 14th 2008 6:21PM >> EV's should be about low running costs.
Says who? For me, an EV is about sustainability as a secondary option to taking public transit. Anyways, who does financial analysis based solely on operating costs? You need to calculate the total cost of ownership that captures ALL the costs. For example, if you're taking out a $50,000 loan at 8% just so you can own your batteries, what's the cost of interest, depreciation and replacement? No one even knows the actual operating costs under PBP's business model so wouldn't it be somewhat difficult to analyze at this point?
No need to spout off inflammatory rhetoric.
Speed-control radars blown up in France {Autoblog Green}
May 5th 2008 8:14PM It is government greed when speed radars and cameras are installed but it is your inherent right-of-man to drive on government built roads? Hmmmm... somewhat strange train of logic don't you think? No one said you had to drive a car. Feel free to cycle, walk or ride a horse. Since you claim to be defenders of freedom in the libertarian sense, let's extend the libertarian analogy a little more. Roads should be privately owned instead of state provided infrastructure and those who use roads should pay whatever rate the owner deems fair. How does that sound?
Harvard professor predicts railroads will return to prominence in the U.S. {Autoblog Green}
Apr 12th 2008 1:20AM Cervus,
You say let private investors take the risk on rail? That's funny, I say that about roads. Why should I subsidize the wasteful lifestyles of exurbanites? How about government spending that delivers the most bang for the buck and societal good instead of a government subsidized monopoly on transportation by the oil and automotive industries?
Obama says "Yes, we can" to hybrid Hummers {Autoblog Green}
Mar 16th 2008 3:40AM Earmarks are only considered "pork" when it isn't for your own district. Get real people, earmarks are how people like McCain and Paul get elected! Who are we kidding, every single resident of the US has directly or indirectly benefited from earmarks. It's the Congress-person's job to ensure projects in their district get funded. There are limits however like Stevens' infamous $300 million bridge-to-nowhere (not to mention those darn pipes that the internets go through...) so $1 million for research at a university seems like a great deal.

Sorry to burst your nuclear bubble but even in France, nuclear power is not without it's pitfalls. They may not have had any meltdowns and hopefully never will but where does all the nuclear waste go? This is a growing issue all over the world. Just look at Yucca Mountain in the US and realize how difficult it is to guarantee the integrity of nuclear waste storage 10,000 years into the future.

Feb 25th 2008 1:57AM An even better solution would be to fix MUNI's pathetic on-time performance and extend the subway/light-rail to more neighborhoods. Installing real bike lanes so there's less fear of getting run over by inept drivers would nice too. By the way, there's been pouring rain with high winds for the past few days here. People still need to get to work when the weather is crap.
America to get high speed rail {Autoblog Green}
Feb 25th 2008 1:40AM It's about time the U.S. join the rest of the world in high-speed rail transport for the masses. I recently read a book that discusses the future decline of suburban and ex-urban sprawl in favor of smart urban growth. Among the drivers toward this future is accessible public transit, preferably rail-based. The current transportation funding act, SAFETEA-LU is up for renewal in 2009. In light of the growing climatic, economic and geopolitical risks, now would be the time to begin lobbying Congress for a shift in spending priorities from freeways that promote sprawl to transit friendly urban environments.

Jan 30th 2008 7:46PM retrospective? Will they gather 'round and reminisce about the good ol' days of bootlegging biodiesel? ;)
That should probably be retroactive...
