China could get world's largest solar power facility
The largest solar power generating station ever might soon be built could be installed at the Qaidam Basin in Northwestern China. China Technology Development Group is planning to build a 1 GW facility comprised of crystalline silicon and thin-film solar cells. The company and partner Qinghai New Energy Co. have gotten approval from local officials to build the new plant, which would be nearly double the size of the next largest example.OptiSolar is building a 550 MW plant near San Luis Abispo, CA. The first 30 MW phase of the Chinese plant is scheduled to start construction early this year at a cost of $146 million. At this time there is now word on when the rest of the facility might be completed.

Max, China, still a 3rd world country. With a few big modern cities and ports, funded by Walmart and Home Depot. Still a 3rd world country.

Please correct "San Luis Abispo" to "San Luis Obispo".

China's half assed efforts to "clean up" it's air were obviously a front. However it's hard to say the same if they actually build a 1 GW solar PV plant!

China indutrializing; that is building stuff. The US is now post-industrial; that is, our primary exports and GDP contributions are services (credit card cos., banks, engineering). American CEOs are evil, but very smart. This leads to unfulfilled lives, but lots of money. :)
