It's Friday: Tango EV - good enough for George Clooney, good enough to plow snow
Now this is just funny. If you're buried under a bit of snow these days then perhaps you'll soon be wishing you were like George Clooney and had a Tango EV. You'll see what I mean after watching this video. Without any special attachments, the diminutive electric vehicle comes blasting out of a garage and clears a path through the snow pile. According to our friend Paul Scott of Plug In America, this video was shot by Tango masterminds Rick and Brian Woodbury in Spokane, WA. What else can a Tango do? How 'bout take on the Tesla on the drag strip. Small car, big heart. And, while some say the small car might pose a danger to its occupants, Rick can make the safety case. Plus, with its narrow design, you really only need half the lane to be plowed in the winter. Video after the jump.

This little car is never low on surprises! So how many other uses can you find for a Tango EV? LOL

That. Was. Awesome!
After listening to people grumble about how buyers don't expect to be able to do this or that with their EVs (Top Gear vs. Tesla), it's pretty cool to see someone - apologies to Nike - just do it.
Tango EV, A.K.A. Mister Plow.
"Call Mr. Plow. That's my name. That name again is Mister Plow."

excellent

Diffrunt is one thing, odd is another. A lot of good ideas would fare better with proper styling.

You gotta love it....no sound. Wonderful.

No sound from the outside at these lower speeds, but listen to the Tango in the video on this earlier post. I thought it was quite loud and irritating as heard from the interior of the car while at speed.

Honestly I didn't find that any louder than a normal car's interior....and given the fact that its interior is the same size as the driver's side volume of a car, it's pretty damned good.

Even more remarkable is that it could plow through those drifts without a plow attachment!
I once hit a snowdrift while driving a '68 Impala, and the engine died. I got out, opened the hood, and sure enough, the air intake was packed full of snow. After clearing out the snow from around the air filter, the car started up. Obviously, an electric car would never suffer from that problem!
One of the perennial objections to electrics, hybrids, and other high efficiency cars is "Well I live in snow country and it won't do well in the snow". Well, here is one electric car that has no trouble with snow!

Man that must have some weight to it to be getting the traction it appears to be getting with those tires. I don't know how he resists doing donuts up and down the street until the battery dies :)

Now if they could only design a box to put over it so you wouldn't have to be seen in it.
Designers at lunch or what?

Funny how some people think that a small car is less safe than something half the size of a tank. No car is "safe"! Cars are basically weapons on wheels.
In 100 years there have been more than 20 million car-related deaths worldwide. Car crashes now result in 500,000 deaths a year, and injure another 15 million people. More than 150,000 remain disabled for life.
Cars are not safe for wildlife either. About one million creatures (not including insects) end up as road kill on US roads every day!
Hundreds of thousands of people die prematurely worldwide every year from outdoor air pollution (smog), much of which is caused by vehicle emissions and particulates from wearing down tires. There is more waste generated in the manufacture of a car than during its lifetime on the road and its eventual junking (think of energy - fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro - and water used and emissions/wastes produced in the exploration, extraction, refining, transportation and manufacturing of everything in the car from glass, metals, petrochemicals, rubber, plastics, leather, acids and electronics to oil and gasoline).
Having said all that, if you MUST have a pollutemobile, the smaller and slower your car, and the more people who have smaller, slower vehicles the better for humans, wildlife, and the environment..
