Chevy tweaks production Volt interior

General Motors is still hard at work on its Volt concept, as proven by these latest images of the car's interior. To the uninformed person, there doesn't seem to be many real changes made, but a closer examination proves otherwise. First, the LCD screen at the top of the car's center stack has been revised and it now looks better integrated into the dash. Before, says Volt design chief Bob Boniface, people thought that the screen moved, which it doesn't. The design team has also added "pill-shaped targets" that offer a tactile feel for the flat-surface buttons, which also make an auditory sound when activated.
Another slight change was made to the center vents, which are now oriented vertically instead of horizontally and are better integrated into the center stack. We liked what we had seen from the first interior, and we think it's even better with this first revision. There is still quite a bit of time before production Volts make it into consumer's hands, so this may not be the last modification made to either the interior before all is said and done. "allot" is spelled "a lot." I see this way to often, what a disgrace that such a simple word is so often missppeelledddd.

Hi Tim,
You are correct about your spelling of "allot" as "a lot" but you goofed on your use of "to" in, "I see this way to often" - it should be "too," as in too much or too frequently.
Gotta [got to] love the internet!
BTW - I like the updated interior of the Volt - hope it makes it to market.

Better, but I think there are some clumsy discontinuities at the sides and top areas of the screens. The top shade, screen and mounting area all look like separate and not particularly well integrated parts, instead of flowing together or giving the sense of being individual elements in a cohesive whole.

For instance, notice how the center screen looks like it's just sort of jammed into an opening at the top of the stack, or how the the heavily contrasting hood looks like it's more or less stuck on there to cover up the mechanical and electrical connections-- with what appear to be some awkward reveals at the sides.
Hopefully, there will be further refinements before the production model.

The prius is so much cleaner, you can use the touch screen to control climate so that removes a whole bunch of clutter.
I also like the prius heads up display at the bottom of the windshield, much better than trying to read stuff through the empty area in the steering wheel.

I'd rather have real buttons.
The value of tactile feedback isn't that you can tell once you've clicked something, it's that you can find buttons with your fingers without clicking them.

Time to redo that stupid yellow/gold bowtie design (see steering wheel). dropped on the Volt (or any new car for that matter) it screams 1980s chevy celebrity, Iowa, irrelevant (no offense Iowa). Belongs nowhere near this cutting edge vehicle.

I'm glad it has actual buttons for things. I hate touchscreen controls.
I like a car that I can change the AC or Radio without having to take my eyes off the road.

My current ride, a 2004 Prius PHEV has kept me on it's side for some time now. I guess part of me still doesn't quite trust GM to produce the Volt... But now... I'm slowly starting to believe ...

why does any of it matter? GM isn't going to last past this year. And that volt of theirs will not even be out until 2010 at the earliest. All I have to say is, "I told you so" to the Big 3. Let the free market reign and let them go out of business while they cash in their never deserving severance packages.
