Neil Young has Heart of Gold, will make you a Linc Volt
It seems that Neil Young is looking to convert more classic Detroit iron from gas-guzzling V8-powered "hogs" to electric powered "swans." Young's quest has already begun, with the rock star converting his own 5,000-pound 1959 Lincoln into an electric vehicle known as the Linc Volt. That car has seen its internal combustion engine yanked in favor of an electric motor from UQM Technologies. We're a bit sketchy on exactly what else is currently being done to the original Linc Volt, and we'll write another post about our findings in a bit. In the meantime, we've discovered that Young has reportedly started a new company called Linc Volt Technologies with the goal of performing more EV conversions.
According to Mr. Young, "Our main focus is on developing the technology. We can tell people how to do it. Or, we can do it for you." Marc Benioff, a friend of Young's, is set to be the newly-created company's first customer, getting his Ford F-150 truck converted to electric. A documentary film of the Linc Volt's conversion is currently being filmed.

Well done,
All the classics are very expensive for our enviroment, so turn in a electric car seems to be a good idea. Of course, if you have the same money that Neil, it's easy.

It would be better to start from the ground up with a carbon fiber frame(stronger than steel) - then you would get much better range & acceleration with a more reasonable battery pack.

I think that they are pretentious inventor wannabees. Batteries, electrical ice gasoline generator, LOL. It's just a pass time occupation to gather some dreamers that drink beer. Big artists
from a mystical era, the sixties and seventies that still pursuing my dreams of endless energy. They should go see genepax in japan instead.

Congrats to Neil Young. What an excellent idea!
Keep the class look without the crass soot...that is the main point.
The electric conversion would make this vehicle tolerable enough to breathe around it, in order to discuss how cool it is !
Eventually,(5 years!) when life becomes normal, it will be illegal to have a tailpipe on any vehicle, and conversions like this will be necessary and common.

This is great. How often do classics do anything but drive around 10 miles on the weekends anyways?

The concept of an Electric/Hybrid 'Classic' does get my interest. But, as the owner of two 1966 Imperial's (5700lbs) I must honestly say that I do like the sound of a well-tuned gas-engine. ..and, YES, its a rare year that I put ev en 1000 miles on either of my vehicles. I am, however, VERY interested in the technology behind the current Ele/Hybrid craze! Yes, its expensive, Yes, it has a LONG way to go but, hey!!...ya gotta start someplace, right? Just think of what we will be driving (or 'flying'!!) around in in another 50 years!! Propane, Hydrogen, Hybrid's are all steps in the right direction (just my 2 cents worth, of course) and once a breakthrough comes in (affordable) 'Battery Technology' the Oil Companies will (hopefully) get really worried!
