Cost of Kentucky Zap plant more than doubles to $184 million

After focusing so far on offering up Chinese-made electric three wheelers, Zap has begun the process of building a plant in the U.S. Zap is teaming up with Integrity Manufacturing to create a joint venture called Integrity Automotive that is building a plant in Simpson County, Kentucky. The plant was originally expected to cost $84 million but that price tag has now more than doubled to $175 million. With the state of Kentucky already committing to $48 million in tax incentives, Randall Waldman, CEO of Integrity Automotive is hoping they will supply more to help cover some of the increased cost. The plant is expected to be completed later in 2009 with an initial capacity of 300 vehicles per day. Zap is hoping that the new plant and relationship with an established manufacturer will help blunt some of the criticism of the company's past business practices. Many of the previously-announced projects from Zap have failed to come to fruition and it's not known if the Kentucky plant will be used to build the planned Alias three wheeler.

In other news, Aladdin has reported that the cost estimate on his magic carpet textile mill in Lexington has gone up. Additional incentives will be needed to make sure that it gets built.

Huh? More BS from the same press release experts. How in the world do you underestimate cost like that? That's not someone I'd want to do business with! I say pull the plug from these crack heads.

I have a xebra (2006 model) love it and have read all the press
on ZAP... for every 1 bad story there are 1000's of great stories.
I believe that because ZAP" is" selling auto's and has many dealers,,, other companies are pissed.
They are 100% electric & City Legal going 40mph, mine is faster but that is the rating. I put about 800 miles a month on mine.
check out a dealer for ZAP www.xebraworld.com

Oh and Sam Abuelsamid, I am very disappointed in your extremely malignant and biased writings on zap.
I Honestly question if you've ever even been in one of those Vehicles...

Whenever i think about electric cars zap always seems to come into mind. not because they sell a distinctively good product but because they are selling a distinctively inexpensive and economically sustainable vehicle.
If you want a sporty hot rod electric car that took 1/4 of the amazon to build; tesla has got it.
With one of those zap car's you'll be the last one laughing because you literally paid more then 10 times less.
