Obama nixes NASCAR sponsorship
Filed under: Etc., Green Culture, Green Daily, USA

Well, the only Toyota Camrys on which you'll see Barack Obama's name are those driven by civilians, like the one pictured above. The Obama campaign had been offered a sponsorship opportunity on the #49 BAM Racing Sprint Cup car, driven by Ken Schrader, at the August 3rd race at Pocono. It's not at all uncommon for Presidential candidates to try and woo NASCAR voters, but perhaps it's best that the Democratic candidate has decided to turn down this offer. After all, it seems that sponsorship of a NASCAR ride might have been awkward, as stock car racing could be seen as being antithetical to any green automotive policies that Obama might support. Obamaniacs interested in seeing their candidate's name on a vehicle can go get themselves bumper stickers, since it won't be hurtling down a speedway anytime soon.

That would have been pretty funny. Advertising on a Toyota with the goal of getting NASCAR fans to like you.

I believe he is denying NASCAR affiliations because he is a racist bastard and NASCAR is a white mans sport. Allah forbid (because for him it isnt GOD) him to support anything related to blue collar white folk.

His handlers probably thought he was getting a little too close to the redneck cooties and would turn off the Dem snobs.

So he planned to woo NASCAR fans by sponsoring an import brand? No doubt he conducted focus groups and sactioned a study to evaluate the proposal. Blatend pandering may work on the left side of the isle but not so much on the right....

Yep NASCAR would happily let Al Quaida sponsor a car as long as "deal is good enough". What a bunch of money grubbers!!
I am surprised there is no Iranian sponsored "We hate you Yanks" car yet....maybe soon...given Nascar's track record.
"Bucu Merci" to Obama and the French for my offending comments...we better get used to asking international permission before commenting on anything or adjusting our thermostat to 70 Degrees

You are missing the point in the story. It did not say that Obama was seeking the sponsorship or wanted to woo anyone. He was offered this by the owner of BAM Racing. It very well may have been for free since the article did not say anything about there being a sponsorship fee. I saw the words "offered". What this article tells me is that Beth Ann Morgenthal (BAM Racing) is a liberal Democrat supporting Obama for president. In an industry like racing where you are totally dependant upon sponsorship by major corporations, how you can support the liberal policies of Obama. Maybe that is why this team has lacked suffecient funding to race at the top level of NASCAR ever since the team was given to her by her husband as a birthday gift. Maybe they just rename the team O-BAM-A Racing.
BTW - I would have been very surprised if NASCAR would have even allowed it - I am sure they would have advised against it.

Your correct and what this article doesn't say is BAM also offered sponsorship to McCain and a few independent canidates but none of them have taken them up on it. None of these canidates went out and offered it, it was BAM who offered it to them.

What a freaking idiot. You're actually making Klan jokes? OOH, you're so funny! Almost as funny as when your dad gagged on my dorkus. No, that was really funny.

I agree! I can't believe people actually think he is a Muslim or has ties to Al Qaeda. And that he's a racist who doesn't want white people's votes? How ridiculous! Most of the people who are working on his campaign are white and even his campaign manager is white!
I was wondering if he would accept the offer, given that it wouldn't really fit in with his Green policies. But good for you, Obama. Looks like you're not an opportunistic flip-flopper like some people ignorantly believe. Who'd have known?

First of all, how could he be racist if his single, biological mother he was raised by is WHITE, as are the grandparents that helped HER raise him? And how about the fact that his African-American father was NOT around as much? I think that's something that would give him a good perspective about family values. You guys really do need to get your facts straight before you talk about someone you don't even know. You wouldn't want someone doing that to you, would you?
