Corvette owner orders electric Yaris from Hybrid Technologies
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, USA

Have you ever done something that was absolutely antithetical to your peer group and then had the nerve to tell them about it? That's what it seems "MRSTEAM" has done over at the Corvette Forum website. The Corvette aficionado and owner let his buds know that he is shelling out some $42,020 to buy himself an all-electric LiV™ WISE, which is a Toyota Yaris that will be converted by Hybrid Technologies. For his money he is expecting a vehicle which will have a top speed of 75+ mph, a range of 120 miles, and batteries that will last 1,500 full cycles. He is not just whistlin' dixie about his intentions either. The Oregon resident has already taken a trip to the North Carolina company for a test drive.
So what did his buds have to say about this? The posts that follow aren't too surprising considering the theme of the website. Although they were polite enough not to voice it directly, it would be fair to say they think he is nuts. Absolutely, positively, out-of-his-mind bonkers. They tell him paying this much for an electric Yaris is economically a bad deal, which, in straight economic terms is probably true. They mention he can rule out picking up any "hot chicks" with it. They encourage him to consider a Tesla roadster or an HST International Mustang electric sports car but since these are even more expensive than the LiV™ WISE, he declined those propositions. Interestingly, no one raises any doubts about the supplier of the converted Toyota, though MRSTEAM himself mentions that the company is $49 million in debt. We haven't heard a word about the after-sale satisfaction of any previous Hybrid Technologies customers, good or bad, so we are hoping "MRSTEAM" continues to post and inform the world of his experiences.

Anyone with connections to this guy, PLEASE keep ABG in the loop to see if HT is legitimate. If I get one more fax at my office (unsolicited) from Red Bull or energy bull or market bull or whatever it is telling me to buy ther stock I'm going to scream.
I still want to find a legitimate owner. Is there one to give us feedback?

You could check the Sam's club promotional info to see who the winner of the HT Smart car was and ask him. I plan on taking a trip to the HT facility too myself sometime soon since I'm only about 3 hours away (and a shareholder, hehe.)
I'll be sure to send some info & pix to the ABG staff when I do go. I'm quite sure they're legit, it's just that it costs so d*mn much for the batteries that people have a tough time justifying the purchase (myself included) so the cars don't sell as well as HT would like. The LiV Wise is the least expensive one!

I heard Alan Thick got a HT Mini to drive around. He's never been all that shy about talking about whatever to whomever. Wonder what his impressions are...

Actually, I just went to Alan Thicke's website and remembered that he's a media wh0re that will sell his name and face to just about anything.
Sean, if you are going to HT, here's a couple questions I had that never got answered. (1) Do you loose any back seat or storage room with the conversions (2) Do they do custom conversions? (3) Can you bring in a used Mini or Yaris for conversion or do they have to get it?
I wonder if the Mazda 5 would convert well.

I have to agree with the Corvette guys. I don't truct Hybrid technologies, and he'd be much better off with a Tesla.
If he can't afford that, then wait for a Th!nk, or iMiEv, or an Aptera, or something else, but not a HT, or a ZAP.

$42,000 That's going to be some seriously long time for a ROI over driving his corvette, which I assume he's also keeping.

guy would be better off buying this thing:

and ditching the vette. While not as fast as the vette, it would appear to accomplish basically the same end, really, in end.

Checked out that site -- seems like a single car for sale. Found the FL company where he bought his. Prices aren't bad at all for what you get and a huge step up from a Yaris.

Hi guys.
I don't know anything about stock price. Yes this is a real company. I saw them on Modern Marvels again last night. "It came from outer space" was the title of that particular Modern Marvels. It was about inventions that were made during our race to the moon. Lithium batteries, robot arms, air pockets in shoes, anti flammable paint. They left out Tang and Tempurpedic.
Sean have you gone yet? Your basically right about cost and demand IMHO.
Most people are not as angry as me about transportation and the oil economy. If the range on this car is true it will be better than any other EV in my area except one or two that I am not aware of.
Yabun: I saw Alan Thick interviewed on the Oriley factor and I don't think he mentioned the electric car to Bill.

The back seat is permanently removed. Though I did not know this until I test drove it. It was not a deal breaker for me but I was surprized. The cargo remains pretty much unchanged.
As far as I know they do not do custom conversions.
The way it is now I believe they have to get the vehicle.
a.brien: I thought about putting a generator in when I was pushing range but am unsure of the size I would have to get. Just put the generator in the back and pull over and charge. I don't want a ICE permanently. On those Porsche the guy mentions they have extra battery pack you could slip in that is cool.
BlackbirdHighway: I test drove the car and believe it will do as advertised. No sense in worrying until there is something to worry about.
tankd0g: ROI on the Wise compared to the Vette? I caculated ROI using my Silverado. At about 70,000 miles the cost of the vehicles become the same.
stevejust: Called those Porsche guys. For their cars to reach a 120 mile predicted range the Porsche would cost aroung 70,000 dollars.
I would probably get the e-box from Acpropulsions as my second choice. As a matter of fact I was on their list for a while, they were booked until December but said they would build an e-box for Oregon. Since I decided to go with HT I removed myself from the list but T. Gage said I should let him know how it goes.
Sorry about not getting back earlyer but I was busy fighting else where.

The one thing everyone has to take into consideration is that the batteries are expensive because no one is mass producing them in large formats... So a company like HBT has a hard time being a leader because the base price is so high. I've personally been to their facility twice and drove their cars. They are IMO legit and will survive. The cars are built right with top components, they don't cut corners. Take a closer look, but if you're just going to kick the tires, don't waste anyone's time.

I concur. I did not want to waste their time and I bought one.
So did you get to drive their MINI or the PT cruiser or smart car? I did not get a chance, only the LIV Wise.
I think they are going to discontinue the PT cruiser. Wonder what they will put in it's place? I think the Yaris, Smart car and Mini are good but what other car would make a good conversion applicant?

I've been to this place many of you speak of.....Hybrid Technologies....(odd because there vehicles are not hybrids but battery electric...which is what I want!!) yes they are real.... Or at least I was physically in the development building, shook employees hands, took a tour, test drove the Yaris and the Mini Cooper on the highway(Interstate 77) and through neighborhoods. If that doesn't make them real than nothing is real.... MY GOD... I didn't want to leave, at least not with out purchasing one of their vehicles. But I just graduated and have no money. I did hand them my resume though. They said I was the youngest dude to come visit. I'm from New York and have never seen an EV on the road before. I had to see it in action myself so after I graduated I got in my car and drove there. Stayed in the Red Roof inn in Statesville NC about10 minutes north of Mooresville NC. I didn't just see it in action I drove it! Let me tell you I wasn't concerned about getting a speeding ticket I went as fast I could go. I wanted a cop to pull me over so I could tell him what I was driving!!!!!! That yaris goes! I was do'n 80mph weaving in and out of traffic!!! The cooper? forget about it, you just tap the pedal and it peels out from a stopped position!!!! They had the governor set to 70 though for the cooper because all the employees won't leave the cooper alone. I definitely see why.
I know people have doubts about this company, thats why I went. If this company is fake they did a great job fake'n their vehicles. OMG and the quietness!! Now the sales guy their, Mike, he was try'n to impress me by have'n the radio on the AC full blast try'n to get me to feel like it was a conventional vehicle, but I already know EV's can do all this, what I wanted to hear was the silence. So on a neighborhood road I pulled over and shut everything off, except for the vehicle of course, and then...slowly pressing the pedal we started to move....nothing but the woosh of air and birds chirping!!! I'm serious there were birds chirping. After you get to a certain speed you start to hear the tires on the road and thats it. Such bliss.
On the highway I just wanted to yell out and beep my horn(you know i didn't see if that worked :-) ) to everybody on the highway and tell them all about it! The feeling of being the ONLY one on the highway driving a vehicle that was more efficient than any other vehicle on the road and no tailpipe was odd and amazing!!! I couldn't stop smiling with joy!!!
*sigh* I want one right now. I want to drive one around on the roads and show everybody I can!!! Look!! Look what has been kept from you for the interests of a few!!! If you've got the money get one!!! and show everybody you can!!! Help get the word out!!! People are skeptical and need to see and try for themselves!!! If they don't build you one after you give them your money you know where the company is, you can go down there and beat them up!! haha I'll go with you!! haha Oh and I did see a crew put one together while I was take'n a tour of the facility.
They did have me sign something saying that I won’t repeat anything I see or hear. But I think what I’ve said here was okay. It was more for their trade secrets probably. *crosses fingers so not to get sued*
Sorry for the long post but this is the technology that drives me!!! haha!
Oh one more thing!!! Regen is so beautiful!!!!

You are all most as bad as me in your enthusiasm. The problem is these cars are so proprietary it is hard to find out much info on them. They asked me if I wanted the numbers but I don't know what formula to plug them into to make sense. I am not an engineer and have no friends that are. I don't care about the numbers just make the car do as advertised and I will be happy. This car should be ready soon but I have heard nothing so far. I am patiently waiting.
