Gas-siphoning HUMMER leads police on high-speed chase
Filed under: Etc., HUMMER, Legislation and Policy, Green Daily, USA
After Pittsburgh police noticed a Hummer (yep, a Hummer... what else?) sitting conspicuously close to a five-hundred gallon tank of gas at a golf course, the vehicle suddenly took off. Considering that the top speed of a Hummer is right around one-hundred miles per hour, we can safely say that the driver was giving it all he had in an attempt to get away. The high-speed chase ended as the Hummer smashed into a tree and rolled several times in a nearby parking lot. The eighteen-year-old-driver sustained leg injuries which required a hospital stay and will face charges after being deemed healthy.Sixty-eight gallons of gasoline were said to be found missing from the tank by the golf course superintendent. To recap: this story is further proof that:
- Hummers are very expensive to fill up.
- Gas thefts are on the rise in the face of record-high fuel prices.

All for about $300 worth of gas. You feel good about yourself, buddy?
Hope they give him a good, hard smack across the face for being stupid thrice. First for buying the hummer, second for stealing gas, and third for trying to run and instead DESTROYING his hummer in the process.
Hope it was worth it, idiot!

Well look at it from the bright side. One less Hummer on the road and he doesn't have too steal gas again!
Here in Europe where gas now is around $9,50 a US Gallon all cars are fitted with a lockable gas gap and the fueling stations have camera's all around. I have heard of vehicles, specially build for stealing gas. They have huge gas tanks.

If you wanted to construct a publicity stunt to get people to think twice before buying a Hummer, you really couldn't script it better than this. This has done just a brilliant job of driving home the points that:
Hummers are expensive to operate.
Hummers are neither fast nor nimble.

Hummers are easy to steal and use in gasoline heists where their large fuel tanks come in handy..
