Why is the iMiEV based an a Nissan?

Good question. Also, why is the MiEV not scheduled for production in the US?

I don't think the IMeiv is based on any Nissan. The platform was joint venture with Mistsu and Smart. Smart uses a Mitsu 3 cylinder also.

I couldn't find any information supporting the "production" status of iMiEV -- is that official?
