14-year-old to ride bike 1,500 miles for EVs

Many have seen the film "Who Killed the Electric Car?" and become angry about a previously untold tale and frustrated by the lack of electric cars in the market. 14-year-old Liza Stoner of Minneapolis saw the film and decided to do something to carry its message further. This summer she will pedal from her home to Washington DC to deliver a petition calling on Congress to take action. Her ride is supported by the Fellowship for Renewal, a group that "supports youth led initiatives and young activists who aim to inspire a call to action by creating awareness and understanding of environmental and social injustices through extraordinary physical endeavors." Calling her effort the "Ride for Renewal," she could use your signature. The petition is online at at ipetitions here. More information about the ride is at rideforrenewal.org.

Cute, but likely ineffective. The GM electric car died because the technology wasn't very good...and that gas was dirt cheap. The fact is that now oil is expensive and battery technology is much better, so all-electric cars and hybrids are becoming better options.
I am at a loss as to what she expects the gubmint to do about it. Wave a wand?
Is there a balance somewhere between childish naivety and the hollow wish that "market forces" will make everything better?

They could modify H.R. 5351 so that it actually covers EVs, not just PHEVs (I call it the "Volt Bill" right now because that's where almost all of the credits will go, given the current wording), and doesn't discriminate between enclosed three-wheeled cars and four-wheeled cars. That'd be a huge step forward.

First, way to immediately go for the personal attack, that's brave of you.
Second, I have seen the movie.
Third, electric cars are street-legal -- even NEVs -- in the majority of states. NHSTA says electric cars, in general, are street-legal if they meet safety standards. Most NEVs fall under "low-speed vehicle" status, meaning you can't take glorified golf carts on roads posted for more than 25mph or so. Saying that electric cars are illegal in most places is disingenuous.
Fourth, this girl isn't riding to change road regulations, she wants tax credits for companies to produce electric cars. I am skeptical of that approach.
In other words, bite me.
