Are biodiesel-hungry thieves stealing waste grease?
It used to be that restaurants had to pay to have their waste oil taken away. Then, with the boom in homemade biodiesel, people were willing to schlepp it away for free, which made everyone happy. I ', pretty sure there are some areas today where biodiesel groups are paying to take the oil away. But, with the high gas prices and the easy-to-understand value of waste oil, said oil is disappearing from restaurants in Wichita, Kansas, reports KWCH-TV. As Healy Biodiesel owner Ben Healy tells the station, "Oil is really the life blood of our company and if we don't have oil, there's nothing for us to do here. Every gallon of oil that is stolen from us is a gallon of oil we can't sell." [Source: KWCH]

Yep, that yucky restaurant grease has turned from an undesirable waste product into something worth the risk.

So much for getting a free ride by making your own biodiesel or using SVO (but SVO was never free anyway since most of those people have to rebuild their engines eventually).

Biodiesel has niche uses but the idea (as well as other biofuels) has been tremendously oversold. It's a good thing that we are re-using waste products and that their value is being recognized. Still the net energy value of these wastes is nowhere near our demand for energy.

Wait, this guy is mad someone is stealing his waste oil resulting in the fact he now can't sell his waste oil? So, greed begot greed?

No, he's mad that people are stealing other people's grease so that said other people can't give it to him for free. Which means that he can't then sell said free grease.
