Air Products demonstrates mobile hydrogen fueling station in South Carolina

"Mobile hydrogen fueling technology." Sound like something you want? Air Products thinks so, and kicked off the company's latest demonstration of its mobile refueling system, this time in Aiken County, South Carolina. Air Products' announcement explains that there is one mobile fueler supplying 5,000 psi (350 bar) hydrogen for one hydrogen ICE truck. Everyone who is opposed to the wastefulness of hydrogen vehicles probably won't be too keen on that. Aiken County officials, like Fred Humes, director of the Aiken County Economic Development Partnership, are gushing about the technology, though. Humes said in a statement that, "By working with Air Products, we have access to the latest in vehicle fueling equipment and a reliable supply of hydrogen. The project team will provide tangible and visible proof that the use of hydrogen as a replacement for gasoline is feasible, safe and reliable." Air Products recently announced a plan to bring ten hydrogen buses to London.

O rly? So they're going to invent a way to regenerate the ozone layer, find some big ol' pockets of hydrogen somewhere underground, and conjure up a gigantic pile of platinum, are they?

The location is at the SC "Center for Hydrogen Research" which is near the Savannah River nuclear research facilies. At the Center they are doing research on improvements to processing, production and storage since they realize that hydrogen is a viable carbon-less energy carrier and hydrogen research parallel to advanced battery technology will maximize the options needed to move away from fossil fuels. In short, rather than whining they are seeking solutions.

If by "viable fuel" you mean it works, well, that was proven a long time ago. If you really mean "practical, efficient and affordable", well, not even close.
H2 fueled vehicles might be "safe and reliable", but with high H2 fuel costs and higher H2 storage costs, and rediculously high H2 fuel cell costs, it certainly cannot be considered "feasable".
With just one H2 vehicle, they could have that mobile fueler follow it around, ready to refuel when needed. Considering the rather short range of H2 ICE vehicles, that is actually useful!
South Carolina government and Savannah River research has latched onto H2 fuel as a way to funnel federal research funds to their state, and as a new way to promote nuclear power. Whether it was a good idea or not never entered into their equation.
