New York 2008: Milner plug-in hybrid waiting in the wings

Sitting still next to the Milner AirCar in the back of the New York Auto Show is the Milner ElectriCar. As we wrote in February, the ElectriCar uses an 11kWh battery and two 15hp electric motors to go for 120 miles without the 125cc engine coming on. We'll be speaking with Milner later today to get some details, for now we offer you some pictures of this unusually long vehicle. Some of the aspects of the ElectricCar that stuck out in my mind are the headlight wings and the center-mounted back-up/tail light. Whaddya think of the look?

Sure is a hideous vehicle. Looks like an Aptera that got hit with an ugly stick. Over and over for a month.
Its stats seem suspect to me. Looks less aerodynamic than the Aptera (look at those reinforcing bars on the front wheels, for example), is almost certainly heavier (seems to seat more people, longer hood, has a range extender yet claims as big of a battery pack as the Typ-1e), has 30kW worth of engines instead of 19kW, yet claims the same all-electric range as the Aptera Typ-1e.
Call me unenthusiastic and skeptical.

Behold, the modern Exar-1, the prototype that will be whored around for decades but never be built en masse!

Looks like a Plymouth Prowler, PT-Cruiser, and a Cessna had a gang-bang.
Who in their right mind gives these companies funding? Who says, "yeah, that's a great idea. It'll sell thousands! Here, have a big wad of cash"?
The green revolution is starting to look like the dot-com revolution. A FEW good ideas and a lot of "me too!" junk. The bubble will burst just the same and Milner's backers will lose all their money and say, "what happened? I saw on CNBC that green tech was the hot place to invest!"

The Exar-1 being a great example of why people need to always be on the lookout for scams, too:

More awkward than the Aptera and probably much further from road-legal.
Still, the hot rod aesthetic of the interior and four conventional doors must have some appeal. Of course, I'm sure the Aptera typ-2, whenever it may be unveiled, will render all of those possible advantages moot.

Who is going to tell them that horizontal tail fins are way out of fashion?
It will inevitably be compared to the Aptera, but with that extra-long nose and silly winglets, it is not quite as aerodynamic.
