Even the Weinermobile is downsizing! Now based on a MINI Cooper S!

The Oscar Mayer Weinermobile is one of America's automotive icons. The giant hot dogs have rolled around the country since the original appeared in 1936 promoting the brand's products. There have been numerous generations over the last seven decades built on a variety of truck and motorhome chassis. It now appears that rising fuel prices have even forced the weiner to shrink. The newest Weinermobile is built on top of a MINI Cooper S and an ABC news crew got it on camera this week. Unfortunately, ABC hasn't caught on to that whole embeddable video thing so you'll have to head over there to check out the video report. See more images of previous Weinermobiles in the gallery below.

OMG Too funny!!! Just wanted to set the record straight on country of origin: yup, mini-coops are made by BMW, but, lots of BMWs are assembled here! I have a BMW Z-4 Roadster which was assembled in South Carolina! We had a Chevy truck years ago that was manufactured in Canada!!! Names do not necessarily indicate country of origin anymore.

With this downsizing, men no longer have to be too concerned about having a mini weinie.

For what they paid for the makeover, they could have bought a hell of a lot of gasoline. AND, I agree, keep it AMERICAN.

I have 2 whistles I got from packages of dogs MANY years ago.
I also have SEVERAL "versions" of the dogmobile from "hot wheels" to plush that have found their way into my life, & I don't think I'll ever let them go!
My grand daughters think the are cool!

It's not the size of a Weinermobile that counts, it's how you drive it!

Are you serious? The hot dog is an American icon like apple pie, what the Hell are they doing putting the weiner on a foreign car? Also you never saw a car just the hot dog, why can you see so much of the bloody vehicle? This is just wrong!

I, like many Americans, am disturbed by the unexpected contraction in the size of the Weinermobile. Let's stop for a moment, to realize, that this isn't the first time that we've seen a contraction... and in time, it grew again. Like the hemline on women's dresses, these things have risen and fallen, many times over the years. With that in mind, I hope that every American will take heart and realize, the Weinermobile is a symbol of our strength and our national identity, one which we will not abandon! Neither today, nor tomorrow, nor in any time to come! Soon, a bigger, better and more powerful Weinermobile will be seen in place of what I've shown you, today... I thought that you deserved to know. Thank you for your patience and attention. If there are any questions about the status of the Weinermobile, I'd be more than happy to answer them, now.

You might want to take a look at Oscar Mayer's website. This is not true. The weinermobile is still as big as ever.

Philip Morris, an English company, owned Kraft which owns Oscar Mayer so it seems kind of appropriate that the new "bun" would be what was formerly an English make of car although the Mini is now Greman made by BMW.
More reason we have served our Oscar Meyer All Meat Weiners with lime, and now, saurkraut.
I expected Philip Morris to come out with a cigarette-mobile when they bought the company.
