DiMora Natalia SLS 2: the $2m "green" car

Ever justified buying something you know you shouldn't have purchased? Getting the fries instead of the salad for an extra dollar because you're hungry and, hey, it's just a buck? Or maybe you bought a way-too-big house because the ARM was so affordable (emphasis on the "was")? Well, you'll have your work cut out for you if you want to spring for the DiMora Natalia SLS 2. The price? A cool two million dollars.
Obviously only intended for the insane - wait, I meant insanely wealthy - the Natalia SLS 2 should be out next year and the justifications have begun. Described by My Desert as "the first eco-friendly, hand-built, $2 million production automobile" (let's hope there isnt' a second), celebrities like Willie Nelson and Larry Hagman are ready to tell us just how good this car can be for the environment. Willie's usually a pusher for biodiesel, not ethanol, but he was excited about the flex-fuel capability of the Natalia SLS 2. He didn't say anything about the car itself. We can guess that's because it's got a V-16 that displaces 14 liters for 1,200 horsepower, which certainl doesn't sound green. Still, DiMora Motorcar says its flagship vehicle will get "excellent gas mileage." Oh, and it's got some nifty windshield wipers.
Look, if you're thinking of blowing $2m on a car, go get help. Better yet, buy a spaceship and head for the stars. We don't need your kind here. If you want to impress your neighbors, buy a Tesla or a Fisker or convince Honda to sell you an FCX Clarity or something. Green cars are smart, but two million bucks for a sedan is just dumb.

The headline picture shows the Maybach Exelero concept, not the DiMora Natalia.

Anything with less than 8 exhaust pipes can't compete.
Seriously, a 14L V-16? with such high-tech features as 2 valves per cylinder?
I bet it's just two LS7s screwed together.

My aren't we judgemental Sebastian. One of the nice things about living in a free country is you are free to spend you money as you please. Impress your neighbors? Is that what its about? I thought, according to an earlier post about hybrid drivers being liberal, you were supposed to be creative and free thinking. Sound very 1970's disco-kid to me.

I'm with Sebastian if your thinking about spending 2 million on this. Please don't, go help fund the government pork barrel projects like the bear study that spends $5 million on a bear population study. Which by the way equates to $2,000 per itty bitty zip lock bag that has a pinch of Bear hair to be studied. you know the one McCain is so ticked about. Please help fund that so as a tax payer I don't have to or just give the money to me I could make good use of 2 million.

There will be what, 10 people in the world who buy this car? They will put what, 5,000 miles (at the most) on this car per year?
Come on, the people who will be buying this thing make hundreds of millions of dollars per year. This car is likely to be the equivalent of an impulse buy to the rest of us. Their garage is probably bigger than most of this blog's readers' houses... make that property that the house sits on.
I say the rest of the hundreds of millions of car drivers is where we should be focusing our attention.

The only thing "green" about this car is the number of greenbacks used. Who do they think they are kidding, saying "great fuel milage" with a V16 1,200 hp engine? Of course, when running on E85, the milage is even less.
Moreover, there are luxury cars that do much better in terms of low fuel consumption and low emissions.
Yes, the ultra-rich have the right to buy this conspicuous consumption-mobile if they want, but the rest of us also have the right to laugh at them for being such fools.

DiMora has also launched an informed piece on the proposed $34 billion bailout of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler American that is relevant to taxpayers and the nation as a whole at their blog http://blog.dimoramotorcar.com
