VP Cheney met with automakers before EPA denied CA waiver
California Waivergate is slowly snow balling into a very big story. Various papers, including the New York Times, are reporting that vice President Dick Cheney met with automakers before the EPA denied California's waiver to regulate tailpipe emissions. Most shocking is this quote from the LA Times:"Clearly the White House said, 'We're going to get EPA out of the way and get California out of the way. If you give us this energy bill, then we're done, the deal is done,'" said one staffer.
The LA Times also give more detail into exactly how Stephen Johnson, the environmental administrator, ignored his entire staff's call to accept the California waiver including how Johnson cut off contact with his technical staff for the last month and they were not involved in the final decision.
Needless to say, Johnson has got some 'splainin' to do.

The impression is, and this has been said and theoried many times before, but does Dick Cheney have more power than VPs of any other administration. Because it's very obvious Bush is not always the guy calling the shots.Any thoughts??

Totally paranoid. VP Cheney is subject to the rule of law and protocol just like everyone else. It's not like he could get away with an illegal war of aggression or get away with shooting someone in the face or...wait a sec.

VP Cheney, without a doubt, has exerted more power and influence in the Bush Administration than any other VP in any other administration ever. The reason, George Bush is a very hands off/delegate everything president.
In recent comments and incidents, George Bush has stated that he did not know what was going on until someone briefed him on the current situation. Either President Bush is lieing or he's telling the truth.
If Bush is teling the truth and truly did not know until he was briefed, he is delegating too much and is leaving a power vacuum. In steps Cheney and starts making all kinds of decision and influencing policy. In order for George Bush to appear like he still has control, he will cover for his people to save face and show his loyalty.

Bush selected Cheney. Unlike past President, Bush wanted and chose someone who could get the job done without adult supervision. Mr. Gore's record speaks for itself, he did nothing as VP (that is why he was chosen) and then when he had the Presidency handed to him, was unable to even get elected!

Good thing that Mrs Clinton voted for the war and then voted against it and then voted....... Yes, Liberals always want it both ways.

Mrs. Clinton won't be getting my vote but I'm sure she'll be a much better Republican president than what we have now. Maybe she'll even know what decisions are being made by her staff.
