HUMMER H2T being tested, possibly with new GM 4.5L diesel

Earlier this week some shots of a new long-bed HUMMER H2 pickup truck turned up online. It's not known if this truck is being planned for civilian sales or strictly for military use as the color scheme suggests. Whatever the case may be, our friend Mike Levine, the proprietor of PickupTruck.com has been perusing the spy pics and came up with an interesting conclusion. When GM announced their new 4.5L Duramax diesel V-8 earlier this year, the company said the H2 would be one of the first applications. Mike believes the extended H2 truck may be powered by this new engine. Check out his analysis to find out why.

Can a diesel option save the Hummer H2? It depends on how expensive it is? This truck had a brilliant model launch, but in recent years, dealer inventories have started to pile up at an alarming rate - even with $10,000 in incentives and discounts!
GM could easily offer the diesel as a no-cost option in place of the current incentivization. I'm not saying that this would make the H2 fresh again, or mid to high teens diesel fuel economy would be enough to turn the brand around, but it would be a start. A diesel as an additional $7K option wouldn't seem like much of a deal though....

Ok, the H2 uses the top of the line 6.2 gasser. So I imagine the price difference between the gas and diesel will be smaller than if they used the 6.0. Probably only a difference of $3000. At the rate the vehicles use fuel, that cost should be recuperated fairly quickly, maybe only a few years.
Still, the new Hybrids on the Tahoe show some real promise, would be nice to see that option on the H2.

Don't discount the posibility that this version of the H2 could be designed for military use as well. There has been projects for years to produce a cheaper HMVEE for use in less demanding roles.
