So, who wants to get into Daryl Hannah's biodiesel El Camino?
Filed under: Biodiesel, Green Culture, Green Daily

I'm a big fan of Daryl Hannah's biodiesel El Camino. Now, it turns out, I could buy it. According to Hannah's own website, this dark monster of a bio-car will be put up for sale on Dec. 20. The price and other details will be announced then, but Hannah is already telling us that she's offering up a B100 pump and station with "the baddest assest biodiesel 'el camino' ever." While some car sellers tell potential buyers that the vehicle was only driven to church on sunny days, Hannah is targeting a greener audience with this line in the vehicle listing: "this super stealth flat matt black el camino hasn't seen a lick of petroleum + has been my daily driver 4 several years." The car has 139,000 miles on it and was turned its exquisite shade of matte black by a custom shop. Very curious to see what the price will be.
As for the pump and station, Hannah claims that it is "oh so easy" to operate. "I can do it myself all dressed up + no mess," she writes, adding that the buyer will get a 55-gallon storage drum and a guide to find local B100 with the deal.
Once she's without the black beauty, I wonder what car Hannah will be driving next. She does say that "u know i'll find another one 4 myself" (I'm beginning to wonder if she's 14 and posting this listing from her cell phone - either that or she's channeling Prince). Other items Hannah is offering for sale include a solar boat and a ranch bio-beast.

What's it got in it? A diesel 350 Chevy with a carburetor and no turbo?

I went out and read her little schpele on her "bio-diesel" el camino. From her description, I really doubt she's making her own bio-diesel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel_production#Steps_in_the_process)
I'll bet she's burning SVO, or filtered WVO in it.

They did make some converted gas engines that weren't turbo charged:

That's some funny stuff Steve ;)

If "Getting into Daryl Hannah's El Camino" is a euphamism for what I think it might be for, well, heck yeah, then count me in!

For the last goddamn time- they were NOT converted gas engines. they shared bore spacing (because they were supposed to fit into the same space) as the gas engines. Once you replaced the head bolts with appropriate head studs, the headgaskets even stayed put, and the engines were very reliable.
Always funny that noone cares how much NOx this thing spews.

If they're optimized for Biodiesel, then diesels don't really spew that much NOx.
By retarding injection timing, the NOx emissions can actually be reduced below what's achievable with petro-diesel. The issue is that very few are so optimized, but it's not too hard to do.
Beyond that, because B100 is completely sulphur free, much more aggressive catalyst systems can be used than are allowed by even ULSD.
Finally, let's not loose site of the fact that all biofuels are carbon neutral. Yes, that's still carbon coming out of the tailpipe, but it's carbon that was already in the environment. Remember that carbon in fossil fuels was sequestered until that fuel was burned.

I love her. She was into shopping green and helping the environment before it was cool.
There is the expression you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? Well, I think Camilla is a wrinkled sow's ear. I just don't like her!
Meanwhile I buy all my makeup and skin care at Sephora which also writes excellent reviews on products and is a wbsite full of info. I think it is far more important to buy great skin care than great make up. If your skin looks good, you can wear cover girl and that rocks!
I buy most of my stuff at an online shopping mall that gives me between 5-55% back in cash on all my purchases. I save on gas and they have a whole section of "green" stores. There are over 1000 stores including Sephora, Apple, The Gap, Target (great for soo much), Macy's. I also wait for sales so I get my cash back and the lowest price
http://www.dailyoink.com The site is ugly, but well worth it.

Owning a car that once belonged to a celebrity is the same as owning a turd that was dropped by Lassie. All in all, you end up with a turd.

The GM diesels were not "converted" from gasoline engines. There design was based on the gasoline engine's block, so as to allow them to use the same tooling. The shared parts were few.
And if you are saying the diesels had carburetors, you shouldn't even be posting.
