EVS23: meet ATEV, the all-electric ATV from EVS (ABG video)
One of the benefits of an electric motor powering an ATV, says Ken Stasiek, the national sales manager of Electric Vehicle Systems (EVS), is that you can sneak up on wild game easier. That's a benefit to hunters. Police forces, too, can benefit from the silence because it allows for easier radio communication, even when driving. I spoke with Stasiek at EVS23 this past week, and he gave AutoblogGreen a rundown on his company's new ATEV 28 (All-Terrain Electric Vehicle). The vehicles were released just last week.
While there might be a lot of benefits to an electric ATV, the engineers were not able to offer all the goodies they had hoped for. The ATEV 28 has a 35 mph top speed and a maximum range of 25 miles on a flat surface. These numbers don't meet the goals the company had set for the ATV (42 mph top speed and a 30 mile range, numbers that are still advertised on the company's website), but there's still a lot to like about this battery-powered ATV.

Potential second design with lithium batteries and brushless hub motors with a trailing arm/multilink suspension would make this thing awesome. It would increase unsprung weight but it would also increase ground clearance since you would lose the transfer case/ rear axle. Plus it could be 4 wheel drive quite easily, or keep it 2 wheel drive for range. That would be quite the vehicle.

Can the electric lawn tractor be far behind? How about a DIY conversion kit for lawn tractors when the old B&S ICEs give out.

For 7100 bucks, this is a great start to electric ATV's. But I really wonder how much range it gets when off-roading. SUV's and trucks usually get worse mileage, much worse, so I wonder if this 25 mile ATV really only gets 15 miles off-roading.
On the bright side, I think a generator would quickly charge up its small (compared to car) battery pack.
Also, it may soon have some competition with Barefoot Motors' electric ATV, but that one may be more geared towards farm use.

Electric lawn tractors do exist...searching Google will find you their websites (there is a Canadian company that makes an electric lawn tractor with a high power inverter for back woods AC to run electric chainsaws, etc.)
Also, back in the late 1970s a GE company called Elek-Trak made an electric lawn tractor with lawn mower and snowblower attachments. Here's one enthusiast's info page:
