EVS23: Valence Technology introduces large format lithium batteries
At the Electric Vehicle Symposium this week in Anaheim CA, Valence Technology is introducing a new line of large-format lithium ion batteries designed for use in electric and hybrid vehicles. The phosphate-based lithium batteries are being branded Epoch. The batteries are equipped with an integrated management system to monitor the state of the battery. The batteries will be available in 12.8V and 19.2V modules for integration into packs up to 390 kWh. The batteries are also rated for at least 2,000 charge cycles. All these good news, and they forgot the most important bit. Dollars per KwH ?

They forgot for a reason. The price is beyond what most sane people would agree to pay.

I wish to modify an electric wheelchair to use this higher capacity battery. The current model claims range figures which are not realistic new from the dealer. The previous model made same misleading claim. The insurance company won't pay for anything cutting edge so whats a fellow to do when the motorized wheel chair won't travel an 8 block round trip outing to the grocery store? At over $600 a battery this needed modification is not managable.

I see potential customers turning their nose up at the awful high price. Must tend to annoy a seller. But from what I understand this element lithium covers thousands of miles of desert floors. Lithium could be simply scooped up with a bulldozer across the deserts, enough to make all cars run electriclly. Remember the digital wrist watches they were giving away at Burger King for free? They use to be $200.00 each at first. Now this vaccum of greed sets in on what you need once again. I could use 10 of these larger ones to run my trike project. Buy hey! I'll be to old to finish waiting for these batteries to become affordable.
