Videos: Sting checks out Zap's electric truck, UPS using the Xebra
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Zap, Green Daily
The video above shows singer Sting checking out one of Zap's electric vehicles at EMA, the Environmental Media Awards. Sting's wife Trudie Styler won a lifetime achievement EMA and Sting tagged along for support. Sting is not the only one interested in Zap's trucks. Below the fold is a video of UPS using 42 of Zap's electric truck, Xebra, which they leased recently for use in delivering packages. Way to go Zap!

Hey! I was at this event! It was a great way to honor those who make an effort in the media to use their celebrity for green causes. It was also great to see so many companies that have cool new products to help everyone from lowly dudes like myself up to amazing (I pretty much crapped myself when I met him) rock legends like Sting live greener lives. I engaged the ZAP representative briefly, but I don't think she was there to answer involved questions from an alternative transportation techie like myself, mainly to look nice and answer general questions from the public. ;)

Hmmmm, while I think electric or 'strong' hybrids are a no-brainer for in-town routes, I would think UPS would want a little panel-truck version. It would be so easy for some ne'erdowell to run up and grab a package out of the back at a stop-light.
Or it might rain?

When I saw the zap I had an epiphany. I have been wondering if driverless vehicles really are our future. I mean, can we even begin to allow 4,000 lb vehicles to move around on our streets autonomously?
But looking at this video I realize that a car like the zap driving autonomously is like Herbie the Love Bug--cute, maybe even mischievous, but definitely not scary!
