Vectrix Electric Superbike Concept bows at Milan
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, On Two Wheels, Vectrix
Following the recent debut of the Vectrix electric scooter at the Alt Car Expo, their new "superbike" concept debuted to an odd choice of music at the Milan motor show. Vectrix themselves have not yet posted any information on it on their website yet, but according to Motorcycle News, this "superbike" can reach 125 mph. The reason I have "superbike" in quotes is because, unfortunately, the only thing super about it is its looks - more cut from the standard crotch-rocket mold than the EV-X7, but just as cool - as you can only go 43.5 miles on a charge. That means if you're planning on going a distance, get to that top speed as fast as you can so you can coast the rest of the way after the battery dies.
In reality, bikes like these are rarely used to go great distances, so Vectrix may have a winner here. Vectrix says they can start building them if they get 500 deposits, so start saving your pennies... or sell plasma so you'll make less of a mess if you wipe out.

I thought the song was appropriate. "The sound of silence", silent motorcycle, ....get it? Anyway, thanks for this. Look forward to seeing some stats.

Oh man. If the scooter is 11k, how much would this cost? 30k? I'd pay 11k for it. But I wouldn't pay 11k for the scooter, and for 11k, the 2008 Ducati Monster sounds quite... well, it sounds.

I get that it's silent (not really but much quieter) but I don't think that's a very good song to debut a Super Bike. If it was made of all hemp, had straw sticking out from under the seat and was being unveiled at Woodstock than maybe. Marketing folks should be reeling. Exciting energetic bike, sleepy soft song. Bad idea.
Cool looking bike though. Looking forward to more info in the future.

The Suprbike is just a model of something that does not exist, at all. The idea for Vectrix was to see if the public liked the way the bike looked, and then they were going to try to manufacture it and sell it as a limited edition for $60,000 in about 3 to 4 years from now, 2011- 2012. Again, this bike does not exist, it’s just a model. This was a project started by Carlo Diabigio, former Ducati Director, but Vectrix has since fired Carlo and replaced him with some person who is lost in this 2 wheel world. The Superbike won’t be built, and is another example how Vectrix loves to sell the HYPE, not the real thing!
Vectrix, is a joke of a company along with their bike. Truth: there 2 wheeler can only go a range of 30 to maybe 38 miles total! The bike weighs 525 lbs., and they are supposed to switch to Lithium batteries in 9 months, late 2008; so why waste you money now? $12,000 +, this is way too much for a scooter! Also, they have SEVERE software issues that give false readings for estimated range, after cruising along for 10 miles or so, it immediately drops down to zero miles range, and no battery left!!
You know why they have home delivery service? Because Vectrix bike wont go far enough to get to your home and they are afraid that it will break down on the way home, too!
The company is run by wanna be that do not understand the real world demands of electric. Their arrogant group back in Rhode Island are nothing but a bunch of former yachts men, playing with electrical toys they do not know how to manufacturer.
Oh, the Vectrix 2 wheeler bike is made in Poland! Why not the good old USA??
Advice: stay away from Vectrix, they are selling the hype. The bike looks nice on the outside, but it doesn’t hold up in the real world!
