KillaCycle drops into the seven second range in the quarter mile

We've reported previously on the KillaCycle, a battery powered drag bike that stores energy in lithium ion cells from A123 Systems. The last time we heard from them the bike had crashed during a demonstration run back in September. This weekend the KillaCycle was back in action at the Pomona, California drag-strip. This time all went well and the bike made a clean run covering the quarter mile 7.824 seconds at 168 mph. That makes this the first time an electric bike has ever dropped into the seven second bracket into the quarter mile. Those A123 batteries can clearly dump the electrons very quickly when needed!

I could probably pull off the same thing if 'I' had a $25,000 battery pack.
No such luck.

Note: The September demonstration "run" wasn't supposed to be a run, it was supposed to be a burnout. The problem was that the bike gripped.
Anyway, it's nice to see the KillaCycle team get the time lower and lower... it'll be interesting to see where they're at a year from now with all the upgrades they have planned...

Why do not other battery manufacturer build bikes to compete with A123?

I agree with Mikael Johansson, this does seem like a great publicity vehicle (yes, that's a pun) for A123, and you'd think other makers would want a piece of that action.
I wonder what the energy usage on a run is, what fraction of the battery capacity is used, and how many runs they get out of a battery. (I assume have to ballance battery weight/capacity against longevity.)
Well done KillaCycle team.
