VIDEO: Volkswagen talks diesel at the SEMA 2007 show
Filed under: Diesel, Volkswagen, SEMA Show
Volkswagen had a big presence at the 2007 SEMA show in Las Vegas last week. They brought their Dieselution interactive display out to Sin City and showed off their upcoming Jetta CleanTDI in sedan and SportWagen form. They also announced the 2008 Jetta TDI cup racing series and and their Touareg TDI off-road racing program. The video above has a variety of Volkswagen representatives, including PR manager Keith Price and race driver Ryan Arciero, talking up the various programs.

And they don't mention anything about biodiesel? VW should go on the record supporting B20 and below. The only reason people buy TDIs where I live (seattle) is so they can get off petroleum and in WA state we have about 60 stations with more being added each month.

This was discussed when we reported on the launch of dieselution tour. VW and other car-makers won't officially endorse B20 until a standard for the the fuel has been established. It would be foolish for VW or any other company to provide a warranty for an undefined fuel. VW and other car-makers are working with SAE and other organizations to establish a standard. A B20 standard is expected by the end of this year or early in 2008. Once that happens and standardized fuel is available VW and others will actively support it.

Wow! After watching this video I realize that VW has no idea what people in America want for a car. No wonder BMW sells more cars month after month than VW in the US.

Yes, NickTDI brings up a good point.
Can it run B20?
Can it run B100.
But, It looks real good and these are the type of car we need to switch to, at least before the Plugin - Diesel - Hybrids are available.

Now, when they ever make it to the dealers lots, I'm betting the dealers will want to rake us over the coals as they are doing with used TDI's right now.
My last choice was between a 27K TDI Jetta and a 15K PT Crusier. I know the latter will not drive like the Jetta, and gets significantly less MPG. But the price differenc alone will buy me well over 3500 gallons of fuel for the PT.

They were promoting Bio-Diesel within the trailer. I took a few snapshots of that corner (left near for those who were there) if anyone is interested.
