Smooth transmission? Most EVs don't even need a transmission. I wonder if he's confused. 0 to 60 in 14 seconds is totally absurd and unacceptable outside of retirement communities, as is the patheticaslly inadequate 80 mile range. That means no trips to any destinations over 35 mile away.
Not a viable form of transportation unless you live on a small Pacific island. Why do rabid environmentalists keep trying to stuff crappy technology like this (and wind and photovoltaic)
down everyone's throat? It won't work. Only super conscientious holier than thou types will tolerate

Kent B. I don't recall anybody putting a gun to your head and telling you to buy this car or else. ditio for the solar and wind. If the range and performance of this car do not meet your needs then buy something else.
Mitsubishi has already announced that a new more powerful battery will be used in the car giving it a range of 100 miles.

I like what I see of the MiEV - but I suspect that, if it made it to the US, it would be punished with the NEV classification. It loses lots of its appeal when limited by NEV rules.

The Sun article was short on details. Anyone know what crash/safety standards the MiEV is built for?

Kent. You have to understand that the city's structures are very different in Japan so 100 miles is more than enough to do the daily commute. Only in America do you have to go 30 miles to do shopping. It's like a European structure where you go downtown so you don't need to drive once you get into the city because there's transits. Go look up Tesla Motors.

I live in Belgium and know there's a lot of smoke blown about how it's different here and smaller and range isn't important - that's not really true - there's little need for a car in most places because you can take public transport or ride a bike, so the only time we actually drive is for longer distances. It's 70 miles from the center of the country to the beach, which almost literally the whole country drives on a sunny day - so let's call 140 miles the minimum anyone would ever accept in a car.

Theres a plenty of countries,throughout the world,with a poor public transport,for example mine,so MiEV definitely has the future.The range of
70-100 miles is quite enough for daily to do's.
