GM's Project Driveway has begun
This week, General Motors began handing over the first of over 100 Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell crossovers to customers in the New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. areas. The program will run for at least the next two years and the vehicles will be provided to regular people and celebrities in those areas (and others, as hydrogen availability is increased). Families will have vehicles for three months and won't be charged for the use of the vehicles or the fuel but will have to provide feedback on their experiences. This will be the largest field test of fuel cell vehicles ever done and lessons learned from it will be applied to the development of the fuel cell version of the Chevy Volt. Getting the vehicle and the fuel for free solves most of the problems with hydrogen... won't work that way for production, though...

Let's hope and pray that none of these contraptions blows up when rear-ended into the large, compressed hydrogen gas tanks.

Free car and free fuel for 3 months, what's not to love? Well, maybe the limited range, difficulty in refueling, and being out-accelerated by most cars on the road, including hybrids.
Still, it is a wonderfully nice gesture from GM to a few lucky people. Well, lucky if nothing goes wrong, that is.

Now that there's a pump in Ottawa I might as well get one and put some mileage on it. :V (I have a 100KM commute)

As much as hydrogen sucks...I would love to take part in this. Maybe some silly university or something will make a fueling station in my area.
