Used car buyers in England getting more aware of CO2 emissions
The number of new cars sold every year is just a tiny fraction of all the cars on the road. There are currently somewhere around 230 million cars on the road in the US and only about 16-17 million new cars per year. The number of second-hand cars that are sold annually dwarfs those sales with an estimated 44 million sales in 2005. It now turns out that just like new car buyers, used car buyers (at least in the UK) are also becoming more aware of the environmental impact of the vehicles they buy.
A survey of 150 used car dealers in Britain says that seventy-two percent of buyers are more aware of the cars' CO2 emissions of the cars. There are a number of different reasons for this with fifty-four percent citing taxes as the reason. This would particularly make sense for drivers who go into London where cars with CO2 emissions of less than 120 g/km are exempt from the congestion charge. Another thirty percent cited general environmental awareness while twenty-eight percent have realized that CO2 emissions are directly related to fuel consumption.

It's not just avoiding the congestion charge, the amount of car tax we pay per year is based on the emissions no matter where we drive it.

If you think that CO2 is a major cause of global warming, then you should first be concerned about the largest contributor to CO2 in the world, right?
The coal mine fires in Asia that have been burning for the last two+ decades produce more CO2 than all of the automobiles in North America and Europe combined.
If you want to be 'green', why not pick on things that actually might make a difference?
