Teutel family's special E85 chopper raffled away for $113,357
Remember that Renewable Fuel Chopper that the Teutel family, stars of "American Choppers," had designed and the put up for raffle? Bob from ALAMN let AutoblogGreen know that the raffle generated over $113,000, which was promptly donated to the American Lung Association of Iowa's Clean Air Choice Program (the state fair folks). The winner of the raffle (which had $10 tickets) was Michael Murphy of Seymour, Iowa. The $113,000 will be used to promote E85 and biodiesel in Iowa.

For the record, the Iowa Clean Air Choice Team is made up of General Motors, the Iowa Biodiesel Board, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, the Iowa Soybean Association, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Kum & Go, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Siouxland Energy & Livestock Cooperative, the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition and the American Lung Association of Iowa. I think they also have something to do with Corn Guy.

Hi Sebastian.
I have heard that burning ethanol releases more ozone-forming chemicals than burning gasoline. I have heard that it produces fewer carcinogens than gasoline. I have heard that it produces more VOCs and particulates. I have heard that it produces less CO2/km than gas, and that it produces more CO2 than gas. Through all of this I'm skeptical of many of the glowing claims I hear because there is obviously a very powerful, very rich, and very active lobby working to promote it's use.
I don't know if you consider it within your job-description to do a bit of research on how much of what ethanol as fuel will actually emit per mile (or km), bit I imagine I am not the only shmoo out here in blog-land that would love to hear what you can find (and from what sources).
Just a thought.

"GoodCheer"... I would encourage you to have a look at an excellent analysis of the ethanol studies published in the peer-reviewed journal Science and available from the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory at Berkeley:

This independent paper examines seven major ethanol studies and provides insight to their strengths and flaws. The also have all their data available on their web site as well as the letters to Science regarding their article.
While not as easy to read or witty as Sebastian's writing, it is an excellent paper on the subject.

Rest assured the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest would not support a fuel that was not cleaner-burning than gasoline. See our test results here:
