Scania introduces new Euro-5 compliant diesel engines
Swedish truck-maker Scania has introduced a new diesel engine range that meets 2009 Euro-5 emissions standards today. Scania developed a new common rail fuel injection system with Cummins that's used on these new five- and six-cylinder engines. The engines where designed to use a significant amount of exhaust gas recirculation.
Feeding exhaust gases back into the combustion chambers reduces the combustion temperatures to help minimize the production of nitrogen oxides. The result is that the engines can meet the standards without having to use exhaust after-treatment systems like urea injection, although they do have particulate filters. The new engines are also compatible with all currently available biodiesel fuels.

"developed with Cummins"- could we possibly be lucky enough to see this in the U.S. then? How about Chrysler expands the relationship with Cummins, and starts putting clean, efficient, torque-laden diesels in more vehicles than 3/4 ton trucks? I'm thinking Jeep would be a great place to start with a 6-cyl diesel...
