Ford announces greener anti-corrosion technology
Ford has announced a new and greener method to apply anti-corrosion treatment to its vehicles. Ford claims that the method cuts water use in half and eliminates 90 percent of the sludge that is usually produced.
The new technology, which is being tested in a small portion of Lincoln Town Cars, cuts steps from the pre-treatment process (from 13 to 8). It also uses Zirconium Oxide instead of Zinc Phosphate, which has less heavy metals in the phosphate bath. The result is a less polluting sludge and, additionally, it saves energy because water must not be heated.
Tests will continue through 2008 and the process will be eventually expanded to all North American plants when it is finalized.
