"Daddy, read me a story" - the Doe's EV children's book
The Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center website has a children's book. It's called call Daniel and His Electric Car. It's a story about a boy and his father buying a car. I won't spoil the ending but you can probably guess what happens. Wink, wink :D"Well, let's see, we have a lot of little blue cars here, but I think you might want to look at a really special little car," said the lady. "A car that runs on a battery. It is called an electric car." "You mean this car is good for keeping our earth clean?" asked Daniel. "My teacher, Ms. Smith, says that everyone has to do their part to keep the earth clean."
The story seems oddly aware of the possibility that the cost of electricity in the day can actually be more than the price in gas. "It is more expensive than regular gasoline cars, but if you fuel it at night when everyone is sleeping and no one is using a lot of electricity, you can fuel it very cheaply. And by the time you wake up in the morning, it will be ready to go." Also, the father looks like Donald Trump. Very strange. There is a coloring page at the end if you hate blue.

I can't decide if the DOE wants to turn young minds towards a bright new future or if it thinks EV's are like fairy tales. >_

How long before Cheney and co. find out about this and take it off?

Hmmmm... Wait a minute. They found:
- A new electric car that's readily available to look at and purchase at a nearby retailer
- An electric car that can handle highway speeds as well as local errand running.
- An electric car that can carry two adults and at least one child (I'll presume that Daniel is still in a car safety seat)
- A new electric car that's affordable by a typical family that's still raising children (though more expensive than other alternative vehicles)
Sadly, my EV searches have revealed that the above combination is still in the realm of fairly tale.
Sure, I know: The arrival of will finally make EVs widely available and affordable. Meanwhile, I'm still trolling eBay, trying to find a basic EV commuter that I can afford and that won't take me months - or years - of work (most realistically affordable auctions are for models that are 10+ years old) to get on the road.
Daniel's parents may be able to find this car today; I'm still waiting. Oh well - bedtime stories are always good for dreams...

Uggh: The posting code edits things it shouldn't.
In my post above, "The arrival of" should have been followed by "- insert new technology here -".
