Canadian Honda Fit soon to be eligible for $1,000 tax credit

When the Canadian government announced plans for new tax credits for more fuel efficient vehicles, Honda Canada was not pleased. Their most efficient conventional model, the Fit, fell just shy of the arbitrary qualification threshold. Honda engineers immediately went to work on tweaking the efficiency of the Fit.

Initially Honda indicated that they might drop some equipment to reduce the weight enough that it would qualify. Ultimately they got the five speed manual version to meet the 6.3L/100km threshold for a $1,000 rebate without dropping any equipment. The automatic transmission version still doesn't qualify. A redesigned Fit is due next year so more improvements are expected at that time.
