Chinese academy develops big electric motors - 50,000 electric cars might come soon
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) announced today that a Chinese company has developed new electric vehicle motors following more than a decade's worth of research. The motors will be used mostly in buses, because "Electric cars have more demanding motor requirements," said Wen Xuhui, top researcher of the electric vehicle project of CAS' Institute of Electrical Engineering. In preparation for the 2008 Olympics, four electric buses are being tested along Beijing's No. 121 bus line.
In related news, Just-Auto says that Chinese company Jiangsu Xinri Electric Vehicle Co. is now building a huge new electric vehicle park in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, large enough to make over five million (!) electric vehicles a year. This complex will also be the site of the State Electric Vehicle Engineering Research Centre. According to China Automotive Review, 50,000 will be cars and the rest probably electric motorcycles. Three and a half million electric bikes were made in Wuxi in 2006.
