Jay Leno gets to test drive the Tesla Roadster, Where's ours?

How come just because he's rich Jay Leno gets to drive all the cool cars like the GM EcoJet and the Tesla Roadster and we don't? Jay got to spend some time with the Roadster and write about it for the Times of London. Needless to say, he was impressed. What car enthusiast wouldn't be impressed with a 0-60 time of 4 seconds and the handling of a Lotus-developed chassis. Jay also knows about electric cars having a 1909 Baker Electric as part of his huge personal collection. There's not a lot we don't already know but the article is still worth checking out. As they say, good things come to those who wait.

I'll bet your time for a test drive is coming soon. One of Tesla's newer validation prototypes has been sighted driving around their HQ. It's VP9 in shocking Electric Blue, if I'm not mistaken. Check it out. . .

i do not get it... so much rave about 5 seconds or less cars. wells most of them are about that... but i would be impressed if it was 3 or less... the norm in super cars is around 3.5-4. and that seems to be a block... few cars go faster then that...

My Lotus Esprit V8 can supposedly do 0-60 MPH in 4.4 seconds. I can assure you, it is a very fast car, and it was in roughly the same price class as the Tesla Roadster. I don't think Tesla are off base when they call theirs a supercar. The electric drivetrain has its own characteristics, and it's going to do some things better, some things (like top speed) not so well, but on the balance I see it being quite competitive.
