Al Gore's son arrested, with pot, after doing 100 mph in a Prius

Guess the Tesla Roadster isn't the only green car that breaks the speed limit. Al Gore III, the son of Mr. Inconvenient Truth, was arrested this morning at 2 in the morning for having marijuana, as well as the medications including Xanax, Vicodin and Adderall without a prescription. The reason police found these drugs on him: they stopped him after he was going 100 mph in a blue Prius. This isn't the first time Gore the third has been in trouble with the law for drugs and illegal driving. The Independent reminds us that he was charged with marijuana possession in 2003 after being caught driving without headlights. He plea bargained that one away. The Daily News points out he was charged with reckless driving 94 back in 2000.
We would have been much more impressed had he been doing 100 mpG in a Prius, not mpH.

What's the big deal? He was in a Prius so this is not irresponsible at all. He's a good guy!

Lets give AL's boy as much press coverage as we did Jeanna Bush.

Wrong kind of green, Al III.

Let's cut him a break, after all if you had to live with Al Gore, you would turn to drugs too....

The pot is no big deal in reality, but habitually getting caught driving at those speeds is a problem. Look out!! here comes another slap on the wrist.

They didn't say he was on drugs at the time, so it's not a DUI/DWI arrrest. Just that when they were writing the ticket he probably seemed crazy fishy or something so they searched him.
Seriously, if you're going to habitually speed with drugs on your person you'd think you'd learn after the first arrest and go buy a radar detector or something.

I'd be VERY surprised to hear about this more than once in CNBC, ABC, PBS or CNN... if at all. If it were a conservative leader's kid, we would see a report on every network every 15 minutes for weeks if not months.
These same leftie organizations are blaming Fox for not being fair and balanced. Some leftie “leaders” (party is irrelevant) are trying to revive the "fairness doctrine" again eliminating FREE speech. Of ALL media, talk radio is the ONLY outlet for conservative ideas because according to the dismal ratings and bankruptcy of the flatulent “Air America” NOBODY wants to hear liberals speak.
Hypocrites!

Looks like Al is going to have to buy some crime-offset credits.

Wow Tim, got issues with lefties??? I don't think anyone noticed. Just keep watching Fox for your "news" and cork it. This is an AUTO site, not your political rant site.
Besides, that's gotta be a landspeed record for a Prius. Congrats to Al "Marley" Gore the 3rd for his achievement.

This just goes to show the next American generation is going to be more irresponsible then the last. Parents are part to blame and so are the corporations. Forcing people to work more and taking educational time away from parents.
The generation with no responsibility and no consequences.

So it is now the fault of Wal-Mart that "Little Al" was doing drugs and speeding? I guess it is everyone's fault, except Jr., that he can't obey the law?

He must have popped a few of those Adderall if he was driving that fast in a Prius. They don't call it speed for nothing!

It's irresponsible to drive way too fast, it's irresponsible to take illicit drugs, but it's really stupid to keep doing it even after getting caught. Some people just have to learn the hard way.
Now that we've all had our little dose of schadenfreude over yet another celebrity (or celebrity relative) getting into trouble, can we get back to business?

I guess I'm more surprised a Prius will do 100 mph.

The green movement has officially come!
By the way, isn't 100mph the top speed for a Prius?

I'm surprised he could do 100 mph on the 405 freeway in Orange County! Oh, it was 2 in the morning? Still. Did he have one of those stickers that lets him drive alone in the carpool lane for driving a hybrid? ;-)
I am really amused by this story (actually, I hope he gets help for an apparent substance abuse problem), but I can't help marveling that Al Gore III drives a Prius. Don't we usually turn out the OPPOSITE of our parents? Why wasn't he driving a HUMMER H1 at its top speed (whatever that is...)?

Curious, I looked it up:
HUMMER H1 top speed: 90 mph, fuel economy around 16 mpg max (diesel)
Toyota Prius top speed: 105 mph, fuel economy around 47 mpg (gasoline)

Well I can tell you that my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid hit 103 MPH and still had a little room for more...but the MPG dropped to a tick...
A Prius at 100MPH is NOT getting 47MPG. No way. That engine will be burning fuel and the electric will be on full boost with no regeneration...

I think (ignoring the drugs issue) that this shows that even if you do the "right thing" and buy a hybrid. Then it's still only as green as you are (again, I am not referring (should that be reerfering? lol) to drugs). At 100mph a Prius is about as green as a Hummer. I have noticed a lot of speeding Prius drivers, I tend to stick to under 70mph on the motorway, and have been surprised at just how many Prius drivers are stretching the limits of their machine at high speed. My ageing BMW six cylinder can be very economical if I drive it nicely. For all people harp on about fuel economy figures, these are irrelevant, it's not what you drive, it's how you drive.
