The Buckeye Bullet 2 - A hydrogen fuel cell land speed record car
In the interest of full disclosure, let me first tell you all that I am a huge Buckeye fan. I do live in Ohio, mind you, and I grew up in a family which always had a full supply of Ohio State paraphernalia to choose from. Please, do me a big favor, and let this one mention of the state of Florida be the only one... no comments on that subject if you would be so kind.
Back to the story at hand: The Buckeye Bullet 2. Perhaps you recall the electric land speed record that Ohio State was able to capture with their 700 horsepower AC driven streamliner. Take that basic design, pull out the fool cells and H2 storage, and replace with the same amount of energy stored in the best available LiOn batteries, and it would go faster. Because it would be lighter.
Not to mention substantially cheaper.

You'd have to ask the Ohio State University team that is building it. But before you do, please realize that:
1. This vehicle was designed for the sole purpose of setting a land speed record. It is not street legal, holds only one person in a very cramped cockpit, has no luggage space, no air conditioning, no radio.
2. The cost of the fuel cells and fuel storage and specialized construction brings the price tag close to a million dollars.
